Same bike, different battery....

My Raleigh Velo Cite 2012/3 is perfect but for one flaw. The battery weighs a ton and does not last long enough. I'm planning to keep the bike as long as possible - I love its Dutch style, the way it rides etc, and there is no way I can afford the only ebike that could replace it in my book, namely the Kalkhoff Tasman Comfort, so my question is...

Are there any experts on here who could tell me if there is a way to hook a different battery to the Raleigh - preferably one that is lighter and longer lasting? I would be prepared to (eventually) pay the several hundred pounds for the right battery if I knew I could get it powering my Raleigh (named Dolly....).

Many thanks if anyone can help!

This has come up a few times. Raleigh claim that they have some sort of Smartbus communication system between the controller and the battery. If they do, you have no chance, but I think that there's a fair chance it's BS. The only way to know would be to connect another battery to the correct pins in the receiver.

assuming you're not giving up on Dolly for some time the price difference twixt the Velo Cite & the Tasman is not that much when adding in the cost of the right battey, but you have it now best to stick with it.
