I need to replace the saddle on my Mistral as I'm getting a sore patch in an unmentionable area, I was thinking of something like this Charge Spoon Cro-Mo Review - BikeRadar any views ?

The Mistral saddle looks like it should be comfortable and for pootling I guess it is but when you really begin to peddle it rubs in all the wrong places.

On another matter having had three punctures in a week on the MTB I filled both tyres with 250ml of Dr Sludge purchased from Wilkinsons for £3.99. I am really impressed, the tyres have a goodly number of thorns embedded in them and there has been no change in air pressure after a further weeks riding.

The orange gloop does tend to collect at the bottom of the tyre after sitting in the garage for a day but when the wheel begins to spin it is evenly distributed straight away.

My 2.3 Conti Verticals needed a bottle each but smaller tyres will get away with a bottle per pair.

My route takes in Thornhills Lane, bloody obvious really..........Thornhills Lane, Clifton:: OS grid SE1523 :: Geograph British Isles - photograph every grid square!

Good luck with the saddle. I'm a bit sore myself even though the saddle didn't get much use on the way back from work. So much for hardcase triple puncture protection. Flat back tyre and a 3 mile walk. I really have to start carrying the pump and puncture repair kit around with me.

I have a Charge Spoon Cro-Mo saddle that I bought largely on the strength of similar reviews & recommendations. All I can say is that for me it was roughly the equivalent of sitting on a fence covered in broken glass  . A couple of trips was all it took to convince me it's for the masochists who don't feel good unless they've sat on themselves (hard) and bounced up and down for about an hour. Mine's in black, looks like new and if you really want one you can have it half price. Seriously though, I wouldn't unless you're into to thin, hard saddles with no give and intrusive pointy bits, where no sane male would want them :D .
I followed this very smartly by fitting a Sport tourer (available in men's and women's pattern) gel flow saddle, and for me it really is the business. A bit more expensive (£32-00 @ LBS), but absolutely worth it :) .

Cheers, Phil

Hi, my daughter bought me a gell filled saddle, think it is called a 'Royale from Halfords, cost about £25 but is much more comfortable than the original Torq one.
It has Swabe marathon tyres fitted and in 18 months of leisure riding on road and sensible carful riding on rough bridleways I have never had a puncture....probably tempting fate in saying this ! silversurfer.:)

Mines Gel filled. It's a Madison G14Z Comfort Zone Gel Men's saddle fitted to my Cytronex bike £24.50. I took Aldbys advice and didn't even bother trying the Bontrager that comes as standard. Though I have that saddle to so I might try it sometime.

I certainly don't get any rubbing and being a Cytronex there's plenty of pedalling. Still feeling it when I sit down though. Especially hard wooden chairs:(
