Hello all

The Dyson vacuum battery pack seems to be failing. I believe it uses Sony v5

Just wondering if there is a better option in cells for replacement

By which I mean either cheaper or higher capacity ?

I don't know c rating requirement /controller specs or anything else do assume v5 as minimum requirement

Thanks cell experts !

the ones in the ebay link are a tiny bit cheaper and more mah than the sony ones but never bought any to test as i just use mine for a light but i got my Panasonic cells from him and are what they say they are mah wise so there not fake, and you get a free torch ;)

I would go with what d8veh mentioned and replace with Samsung 30Q's.

You should get extra run time with those, and the Dysons aren't exactly renowned for their operating time.

they put 30a rated cells in it for a reason the 30qs might start to get a tad hot if there pulling that many amps as only 15a ;)

Sure I've read the VTC5 is only 30A if used with an 80 deg C cutoff circuit.

Otherwise it's 20A. Might be wrong though.

Does it have a dongle @KirstinS? No cause SW sees you melting the plastic...

I've just looked at my Dyson. the cells look to be bigger than 18650s - more like 22650s or even 26650.

The pack is 21.6v 2.1Ah and supplies 350w. It's a 6S1P configuration so 16 amps per cell.

I'll have to open it and have a look to be sure . It's a V6 handheld
Why not just buy a spare battery and charger, then you can swop over to the other one, when the power gets too low.

Ok, so these are not Dyson OEM, but you would get longer run time using both batteries, than actually recelling your current one.

Honest answer?

Cos where is fun and satisfaction in that !

And the missus won't like that

And I'm going to jimmy for a ebike battery build just after Xmas. I thought he could probably supply a few loose cells for me do this job

And finally, the dying cells really do affect performance. I am wary of non oem packs containing lame cells that sag. I may end up with two underperforming packs

You could always make a 6S booster pack. You're pretty good at that sort of thing now aren't you? What about a 6S4P pack with a belt clip? Find where the power wires come out of the Dyson's battery and add a change-over switch for the external pack. You'd need a 6S 20A BMS though.

Yep, not bad at any rate (largely thanks to your guidance:)

But it isn't Mrs S friendly

No technology is to be fair! Still an additional 6s splice in could work well for me. I have two 5200mah 6s lipo packs (need to check the c rating mind)
