Help! Replacement DP CO7.CAN wanted.

Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who can supply a replacement DP CO7.CAN. My wifes Eskute Wayfarer Pro's LCD has failed and she has been without much needed transport for nearly two weeks. Eskute are being far from helpful and we have learned that despite being less than one year old, the Eskute warrantee only covers this part for up to six months.49072

Being CANbus on may need a dealer to set it up/configure it.
One reason why I steer clear of any bike with CANbus systems.

It's a standard Bafang part. Any dealer supplying BBSxx mid-drives should be able to get one. As Neal says, the part suggests it's CANbus rather than UART comms, so make sure you order the correct one.

Bafang like other manufacturers ar eupping their game to CANbus on mid drive and hub oem bikes also it is said bbs mid drive kits. Proprietery batteries ,controllers and displays all needed, whether we see then exit the diy market altogether is another thing.

Eskute are being far from helpful and we have learned that despite being less than one year old, the Eskute warrantee only covers this part for up to six months.
In many cases companies pretend to reduce their legally required warranty. Most things like this are automatically covered for a year (or maybe even two) because of general UK (derived from EU) law.

I'm afraid I can't point at a definitive statement on this, nor do I know what you need to do to force companies to respect the law.

Then its quite simple, if you are an individual (not a business) you bought a product, an eBike, and apparently its failed within a year, legislation protects you.

An eBike (possibly expensive) would reasonably be expected to have a reasonable life, 5+ years maybe.......

The seller cannot hide behind this 'warranty' c**p. The product is very clearly defective and they are obliged to repair or replace or compensate, for up to 5\6 years after purchase. That has been consumer law in the UK for a long time.

Sellers can offer a 'warranty' if they wish, but dont have to, but that does not usurp your rights under consumer legislation.

And If I recall correctly, if a seller attempts to remove your rights under consumer legislation, by for instance claiming the product is 'out of warranty' they are commiting an offence.

well if they wont play ball then small claims court and cost them a fortune you cant loose and report them to trading standards for braking the law.

cant say 2 year warranty and then yeah but this that only has so much warranty.

BAFANG has created the following warranty.

Warranty:
This warranty is offered only for the initial buyer or the designated brand in Europe, North America, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao and mainland China. Customers in other regions should contact their BAFANG representatives for information or contact service@bafang-e.com

Warranty period for products:
Under compliance with local law and reasonable use, if no valid invoice can be provided, the warranty period ends 30 months after the date of manufacturing (as indicated by the serial number); if valid invoice can be provided, the warranty period ends 24 months after the date of invoice, however, the longest warranty period is limited to a maximum of 36 months from manufacturing date.
The warranty may not be transferred to a third party other than as specified in the agreement with BAFANG.
Other situations may be covered, depending on the agreement between BAFANG and the buyer.

Warranty Exclusions:
1、 BAFANG products that have been modified or repaired without authorization
2、 BAFANG products that have been used for rental, commercial applications, or competition
3、 Damage resulting from causes other than defects in material or manufacture, including but not limited to an accident, neglect, improper assembly, improper repair, improper maintenance alteration, modification, abnormal excessive wear or improper use
4、 Damage during shipping: The party’s responsible for the damage must be determined using INCOTERMS regulations.
5、 Damage to the surface finish, aesthetics, or appearance
6、 Damage due to buyer’s improper transportation or storage
7、 Failure due to an unreasonable user configuration or unauthorized changes in the relevant accessories parameters
8、 Damage or loss due to force majeure
9、 Damage or failure to components not manufactured by BAFANG, even if sourced through BAFANG at buyer’s request

As has been suggested, small claims court.

Offereing a one or two year warranty is generally good, stuff if fixed or replaced with no argument.

But often sellers attempt to confuse customers by offering, at a fee, an extended warranty. So in simple terms they want to be paid for providing replacements\repairs that consumer legislation already makes them liable for.

This is a good source of information;

Thank you Stewart, excellent stuff. I found the Which website, but I'm currently deciding on the plan, ie the cost of repairs or returning the bike or even both bikes if I cannot depend on a warranty.
What I find incredulous is that I still haven't had any meaningful dialogue with anyone, just brief, difficult to decipher messages.

Well if you know what protection the law provides, then you can make clear to the seller what that legal position is, that might make them a bit more co-operative.

As I understand it, what the law actually requires is that, after 6 months, the onus of proof is on YOU to prove that any faults are not caused by misuse or fair wear and tear, or there's a recognised common fault with that product/model. That's difficult to prove, and often requires an expert third party, written opinion... at your cost.

Spoiling for a legal fight with Eskute isn't likely to achieve a quick resolution, whatever your consumer rights may say. Legal resolution is longwinded, uncertain, and can be costly if a Court rules against you (I just yesterday won a court ruling plus £454 costs against some twat who read a Which? article and thought they had the law on their side - they didn't). At best, Eskute may replace the part if you continually make a nuisance of yourself just to get you off their backs.

The component is made by Bafang. Their warranty (post #15) implies their component is warranted for 30 months from the make date determined by the serial number on the product. There's a link in that post... I'd say it's at least worth an email to see what Bafang have to say?

Thanks for that. I'm no barrack room lawyer, neither am I spoiling for a fight with Eskute. We are a retired couple on a fairly modest budget who spent in excess of £2500 on two Eskute Wayfarer Pros to enjoy in our dotage. This plan has come crashing down and I'm faced with a relatively intractable problem that I've never experienced before despite a huge involvement in cycles, motorcycles, cars, etc.
I would prefer to negotiate a solution and the time I've wasted on this problem exceeds any cost of a replacement which, as a last resort, I'd pay for because the Wayfarer is of no use as it is.
With that in mind, the Eskute warranty makes it clear that they will continue to offer spares and support outside the warranty period. Both bikes were bought last November!
As a reminder to anyone following this thread, the attached is what I need.
