Hi first post for a while, My whisper bike battery is on its way out and its time to replace it. As well as replacing the battery i was thinking of replacing the rear wheel and motor for a go faster one. Can i just replace the rear wheel for a higher wattage motor plug in and go with the existing whisper system?

thanks'

The controller, battery and motor all need to be capable of providing the power. More powerful controllers are often bigger, so you need somewhere to mount it. It would probably be better to get your Wisper going, sell it and use the money to start with a clean sheet.

The basic answer is no. Your present controller provides the power to your motor and it takes it from the battery. It's probably allows 15 amps from the battery. You may be able to adjust it to give 30% more current, say 20A, but can your battery provide that? Probably not, although it could probably manage up to 18A, which is 20% more. To every upside there's a downside. In this case, over-driving the battery will wear it out more quickly and increase the risk of problems. If the battery were replaces with one capable of giving more current, you'd probably be OK, but this means a bit of DIY jiggery pokery.
