Hello everyone

I recently purchased my first e-bike, a Cyclamatic C1, and I was wondering if it is possible to remove the speed limit of 15mph.

Thanks

Yes, but it depends how much you want to spend. Open up the controller box and show us what wires come out of it. If you're lucky, it won't cost anything.

Thanks for the reply.

How do I locate the controller?

EDIT: Do you mean the device on the handlebars that turns the motor on/off?

No, it's in that black box on the front of the frame.

Hi minime - I presume you are talking of the Cyclamatic CX1?

Hi d8veh - had a look at my CX1 and have a few details that might help you to answer minime's question?

MOTOR
No wattage or manufacturer name, only '36V' and '26' stickers.
Also on the side a model code SOF1610C2443
(suspect the 1610 part is the manufacture date)

.

BATTERY
36V 8.8AH

CONTROLLER
36V 350W 13A (also build date of 2016/10)

WIRING

Appears to be:

Battery - thick red and black - crimped

Motor -
thick - yellow, green & blue - crimped
thin - black, blue, green, yellow, red - plug/socket

Brake Switch
thin - 2 seperate pairs of black, grey - plug/socket

Crank Sensor
thin - black, purple, red - plug/socket

3 level LED Handlebar power switch
thin - red, orange, black, green, white, purple

Note - the purple wire above appears to link the crank senor to the handlebar switch without going to/from the controller

Unplugged
thin - black and white.
Black from controller and white goes to handle bar switch.

All the above, hopefully correct...

Thanks for that. it's really useful. Black and white is probably for optional lights. The motor code SOF is the manufacturer, but I've not heard of that one before. The main thing is that there's no clue to its speed.

I would guess that the limit is set by software then. 13 amps is a bit lame. You can get better hill-climbing by adding a bit of solder to the shunt in the controller to take the current up to about 17 amps.

Probably, the easiest solution to more speed would be a replacement controller, which would give the opportunity to get a better control system too:

That's about £70 when all is said and done. It works out a bit cheaper per controller if you order two.

You'll have to change over the motor hall connector from one to the other or solder the wires directly together (easier). Maybe some other connectors too, but nothing difficult. basically chuck your handlebar switch, install the new throttle and LCD and wire everything up. Maybe order the pedal sensor too just in case of compatibility with the old one.

One last thing: We don't know the motor speed. Before doing anything, you should test the max motor speed with the battery fully charged and the wheel off the ground, then retest with a nearly flat battery. If the speeds are the same, then the speed is limited by the controller. If there's a difference in speed, you're knackered.

Looking through the options on the link, I didn't quite understand the PAS he different 10 pole or dual Hall sensor. Also not sure what the different LCD/LEDs offer.

I tried both and couldn't notice a difference, except that the dual hall ones are handed, so will only fit on one side.
