I regrease the final drive of my BBS02 when the metal gears start to get a little noisy.

I was using CV grease to do the job, but decided to try a thicker grease, hoping that it sticks to the gears a little better. With the help from flecc, searching for a thick grease, I bought this:

Well, it's definitely thicker than CV grease and looks perfect for the job.

One way to remove the old grease from the drive is to strip the unit down.
I didn't feel it was necessary to do this, as it is time consuming.

So, I used my trusty old wet and dry vac, 30 quid from Screwfix, to suck the old grease out of the final drive:

It certainly does the job of removing most of the old grease:

Then I packed the new grease in there using a syringe filled with the grease:

Job done :)

Warning: Please be aware that grease from the final drive could get through to the nylon gear.
Whether this may be an issue later on in the drive's life, I just don't know. The nylon gear won't last for ever anyway, and the replacement will be another project when the time comes to it.

I have been regreasing the final drive for the past 1900 miles and the unit is still running sweet.

Had my BBS02 for about 2 years and guess it could do with its first service although still quietly purring away at the moment.

Fordulike - did you kill the vac after sucking all that grease since it isn't design for that. Was there any grease left in the tube afterwards.
