Realise now what I need in an e-bike - advice required

Hello cyclists,

When I joined I stated I wanted a 28" wheel upright step-over bike. I ride my current NON-e-bike with 28" wheels around for pleasure but today decided to ride it to work in the gorgeous sunshine (to remind myself the good and bad points of cycling as an unfit and overweight person to work and back).

I have now reminded myself that as I am so unfit I wobble a lot going uphill when I'm losing power and also wobble starting off on a hill. I think I must have scared about 3 other drivers with my front wheel lurch (I hate it when I'm driving when a cyclist does that). Therefore I've come to the conclusion that I need a throttle - I think I'm currently too unfit to pedal and expect power to add - I need to rely on instant throttle for those potential wobbly moments. Does this sound correct?

I still want a step-over and sit up straight ride (no convincing me otherwise I'm afraid) but am prepared now to consider a 26" wheel (though also still try out 28") as wondering now if the 28" is adding to the wobble factor (possibly not....).

So any suggestions for low price range and medium price range e-bikes would be greatfully received.

Many thanks,
Penny PS: Arrived very sweaty and red-faced for a long time. Not nice.....not nice.....

I Don't think there is any real wobble difference between 26 or 28 inch wheels, I think that's down to confidence and responsiveness of the system.

You certainly would benefit from a bike with a throttle, to help overcome that wobble.

I wish we had an outlet down your way, but are only slowly expanding our dealer network. May have one soon in Hastings...

We do have a willing demonstrator of our latest Sport in Crouch End, who could arrange a test ride for you.

But really you should find a local stockist of several makes to try. Definately try a few that catch your eye and make sure there's a hill or two near.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply Bob - appreciate it. Crouch End too far but thanks anyway!

What I need is someone who opens on a Sunday. It all seems to be Mon-Fri round here when I am always unavailable. I know some places do Saturday appointments but again I am mostly unavailable.

Ah well.
