Hi Folks,
Just thought I'd let you know that after numerous posts complaining about clicking and rattling from the chain on the Agattu, and after a flurry of help from patient (as ever) friends on the forum, I have cracked(ho) the irritating crackling sounds and gear slippage prob... I bought cycle oil spray which seemd to penetrate where the oil can failed and I have now reached the parts that other lubes couldn't reach and the clicking has ceased. The only thing left now is a dull single click when the left pedal is turned or wobbled back and forth with weight on it. Strange..The bike is still running a dream.

Thanks everyone again:)

Great news Tom. Some grease on the tensioner assembly will give a longer term fix. Is your pedal on nice and tight. If you get out of the saddle on those Bath mountains, it will put a lot of pressure on the pedals. 15mm spanner from memory

If it's not a loose pedal as Paul says, it could be the crank slightly loose on it's taper, causing a creak once every rotation. Often happens on the Panasonic unit. You'll need to get a cycle shop to tighten that for you as it's a special tool, but it's quick and easy and they'll be able to check the tightness while you wait.

The only other causes are a bit of grit in a pedal bearing or the bearing failing, both highly unlikely on a new bike.

Thanks Paul and Flecc,
I'll try tightening the pedal and if that fails I'll let the cycle shop have a look and report back. Worth commenting that it not only thumps gently through my foot on a rotation but I can make it thump when pedal is in the lowest position and I rock it forward and backward with my foot pressing down.

That could still be the crank Tom. When you rock back and forth, the motor tries to drive in the same way as it will if you press on the pedal when at a standstill through the action of the pedelec drum.

Therefore what you are experiencing could be crank not absolutely tight or just the motor's momentary kick. You'll see the crank tool in use and it's use described in the first two paragraphs of this page on my Lafree website:

Single Rotational Pedal Click

Hi Folks,

I had exactly the same LHS pedal click. The pedal bearing feels really rough but a few drops of oil seems to have cured it for now.
