A few weeks ago I bought some bar ends from Halfords.

Price on the shelf was £5.99, so I was chuffed when the guy on the till charged me £3. I was even more chuffed when I got outside and realised that the end stop inserts were actually a tool kit.

I was in Halfords today to buy a light (don't ask - last minute requirement) and saw the same bar ends for £7.99. Seems to me they make it up as they go along, perhaps this was the bank holiday price?

Anyway, they have come in useful already. Out on a ride last week, the wife's big bear started making a horrible noise, bit like crepitus. Found a very slack spoke on the motor wheel, and another two loose ones. Hey presto I had a spoke key hiding in my bar end. Tightened the spokes, got rid of the noise and prooved myself to be the little treasure she knows I am really ! (No I didn't loosen the spokes before we went out :p)

The ends have a fitting width of 15mm, just about managed to shufty everthing along just enough.

They had either a 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 deal (cant remember now) on components a while ago, so I bought up their stock of long bottom brackets.
