Hi,i have a 1980,s Raliegh Banana in realy good condition and has been well looked after
and i am sure that i read some where that it was not advisable to fit a E/bike kit conversion
to a steel framed bike, can anyone throw any light on this .as i would like to add a front wheel panda conversion.

Oh man, you've really set my nostalgia alarm ringing. I owned and rode one of those many moons ago. Nice bikes ;)

Steel frame and forks are far better for conversion. It's alloy forks that are sometimes too frail for a front wheel motor. Make sure you fit and anti-torque arm as well if there isn't one in the kit, these prevent the motor core and spindle rotating in the fork.

Hi

Nowt wrong with keeping it real with a bit of steel :)

Hi, well theres nothing wrong with Boardman bikes as mine is realy nice as the pic shows, but i have to make a choice of which one to install the panda E/Kit on and i know some might say its got to be the Boardman Hybrid sports as its strong its already fast the brakes are excellent, the gearing is smooth, but it has about as much charisma as a dust bin lid compared to the Raliegh and i dont mean to upset any one who rides a boardman but the Banana takes centre stage in my book and its only a copy .

Nice to see you back, Brian. What happened to the Tonaro?

How much do you want to spend on the conversion? It has to be a light-weight one, which'll cost a bit more than your average 250w conversion kit with hub-motor.

I keep looking at one of these for one of my road bikes:

http://www.keyde.com/en/Product/motor/Rear_motor/2015/0827/115.html

https://world.taobao.com/item/539729876693.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a312a.7700824.w4004-681193632.14.aOk9iJ
Hi, thank you and the tonaro is still running ok but it needs a new battery and i see that Phil who i bought from has stopped selling which is a real shame as i am still on the original battery and done miles on the Tonaro ,but the battery costs £240 nearly and i am not sure as i got older the bike got too heavy to lug up the stairs so i thought i would sell it on for a couple hundread pounds baring in mind the shocks still work but dont look as good as they did and little things like that want doing .

Hey i like the look of the motors you are looking at they look a proper job, whilst i am buying a E/Kit from Panda.com which is a 250w front wheel job with kit and it may go on the Raliegh if i think it is safe to do so or the Boardman Hybrid sports so its make my mind up time, any way nice speaking again best wishes Brian.

Hello Scarrabri, if you convert the Raleigh, you may have to change the handlebars, gear shifter and brake levers.

Hello Scarrabri, if you convert the Raleigh, you may have to change the handlebars, gear shifter and brake levers.
Hi thanks for your input and you are correct about handlebars but Panda.com who i am buying from do a sensor that fits on the original break leaver and i cant see any reason why they cant be adapted and the gears are the Down shifter type that fit on the down bar so they should not be a problem, what did bother me is i realy wanted a half twist throttle control but where and how that could go and actualy work is beyond me .lol but thanks best wishes Brian. and the most important question is it all going to be safe on 40yr old bike and as we all know steel bikes can look brilliant on the outside but a silent killer on the inside, so with more thought maybe a little too risky for the gain
