So I broke my Raleigh Velo XC display unit, long story but it was basically my fault :-(
Genuine replacement parts were a rip off so I set off down a custom install.
I replaced the display and controller combo. The wiring of course wasn't plug and play so I made some adapters out of the original and some bought connectors which went well. I am pretty confident I have the wiring right now.
There are two main faults, firstly the controller is configurable for different installs. The two main settings are called P1 and P2. P1 according to the advanced manual has a settings range of 1-255 and is a figure for:
motor gear reduction ratio × number of rotor magnet pieces
The second P2 is for the number of pulses per revolution from 0-6 where 0 seems to be unset.
The motor twitches and runs extreamly roughly and will rotate the wheel slightly if free and under no load. That does indicate to me I have at least got most of it right but there are over 1000 combinations of configuration for the above P1 and P2. Does anyone who is more experienced than I see that characteristic as being a symptom of an alternative problem?
I've tried a range of them and I do get margonally different results from some of them but non of them work well. Naturally I've approached stores and Raleigh themselves and they either don't know this information or are unprepaired to tell me what these values should be. Sadly the button combination required to get to the advanced menu is quite time consuming so attempting them all by trial and error is going to take significant time.
So does anyone know the specification of the standard Raleigh Velo XC motor?
I also have approached a few electric motor specialists and they aren't interested the moment you say electric bicycle motor so that hasn't worked out for them to be able to retro inspect or calculate the above requried values.
Finally the original PAS sensor doesn't seem to respond, but I have bypassed that issue by installing and thumb throttle and set the advanced settings from PAS to Throttle mode but I would like to solve that if we fix the first.
So overall it's a little frustraighting because I've hit a brick wall and it seems like I am very close to the answer.
