I am very interested in the Panasonic at the moment. reading through swiss flyer catalogue I have a number of questions:

flyer charge approx £250 extra for the 15 Ah battery upgrade from the 10 Ah, is this good value do you think?

The 300 watt motor and 15Ah battery as a package upgrade, can be had for approx £450

250 to 300 is only a little naughty do you think?

Who would notice you where riding a fundamentally illegal bike?

If I go for a 15 Ah 250 watt S model, it is the sport anyway, and I guess similar performance to a kalkhoff S? would this be correct? I would be happier being kinda legal:p

That's not a bad price Eddie, I'd expect £200 more for the extra 5 Ah alone, but 50cycles are always less expensive than Bike Tec Flyer.

300 watts isn't illegal by very much, but the S models are also illegal by virtue of the high assist speed, so either way you wouldn't be legal. For that it has to be 250 watts and assist limit of 15.5 mph.

Strictly speaking, pending the change in the law, that should be 200 watts and 15 mph at present.

No problem, I removed that answer to match! :D

Personally I'd buy the Kalkhoff with a 50% bigger battery than was needed usually. That would give optimum performance and longer battery life for minimum extra expenditure.

I am going to try the Kalkhoff's (and E Motions) but at the moment I am in lurve:) and its heart over head.........I will soon sober up I always do:D BUT you did warn me about trying these bikes!

yeah prices OK I guess, as swiss vat is 7.6% just have to smuggle it back in.......

I can get a 28 inch S (cross country model) 15 Ah sport XT. for approx £3700 that is brochure price? so should be able to get it cheaper I would fink........

Yes, they are nice and that is a good price already. Some of their THS models go to around £5000 or more in the UK these days.

The S/sport models, are they only more useful on the flat for speed, or are they better on hills as well?

same question for the Kalkhoff S I guess

They might be fractionally better in a given gear due to very slightly higher power in standard mode, but not enouigh to get excited about. Where the S models win in climbing is that the high power mode has a higher multiple, i.e. typically 2 times standard power rather than 1.5 times on low speed models.

The models I know of are as follows, the prices shown are old UK ones though. Some of these models may no longer be current:
