Hello All
Having recently advertised my Freego Eagle for sale and then receiving some excellent advice from Nealh and having second thoughts about selling I have now purchased a replacement battery from an ebay seller that Nealh posted a link to.
The battery was a very reasonable price and as per the listing included, together with the battery, a charger, two keys, mounting rail, plate and discharge connector. All very well packaged and delivered within 48 hours.
I did ensure that I checked the polarity prior to fitting but the battery was a direct replacement for the original albeit a higher AH rating.
After charging I took the bike for a short test ride of about ten miles including some moderate slopes and I was very pleased with the performance it delivered flattening the slopes very nicely. I set the assist level higher than I normally would to give it a better test and it is still showing a full spread of LED's. It has reawakened my interest in cycling.
So thank you to Nealh for the valued advice.
Take care.

A great result Flynn, what seems a white elephant or possibly a lost cause can become a nice bike if in decent condition and your bike was in great condition so certainly worth while the small layout on the new battery.

We love a good ending.

The discharge cable plugs into the controller but surely you have to adapt it to match the socket of the controller?

With the Silverfish type the discharge connection is fixed and mounted on the base plate, most of these batteries use the same mount/discharge plug. The ont thing one has to check is the polarity so as not to blow the controller and to check the same pins supply the juice.

There is another ebay seller offering at £155
Buying the cheapest isn't always the best one has to compare the specs, like capacity and discharge continuous current are similar as well as the cells used if possible.
We know with Yosepower they give a very good service and CS is pretty damn good.
So for the sake of £40 it may not be worth going a bit cheaper.

The cheaper one from Yose power is 50% less capacity so is not like for like, the higher capacity means the battery should hold the voltage a little higher for longer.

The discharge cable/connector supplied was exactly the same as the one on the bike and didn't require any adaptation. The battery would have fitted straight on to the original but having to check the polarity (I believe it is not always wise to accept the positive and negative marks) it is easy to replace with the new one at the same time. I did do some research on the manufacturer. Yosepower do have a good reputation for customer service and I am pleased with the product thus far I would certainly go to them again if I needed to.

As I mentioned we like a good ending, the Freego era of bikes are under rated and under stated. Really a good solid bike, looked after well they will keep going for years just like the Emates of the same era.
The Yose battery may not have the best cells in the world and may even be China branded ones, but that doesn't mean they are utter rubbish as some China branded cells appear to be pretty good when compared to the competition. If one gets three or fours years of good use out of the batter, it can then classed as win, win situation.

Another older style bike of the same era is the Kudos Safari a step thru frame, although heavy it has the Bafang front hub (possibly the excellant BPM) and is a heavy but fully loaded bike with the excellent Nexus gears. These were at one stage sold as a pair for £999 or at £695 each with the heavier but long lasting Lifepo4 battery which if looked after right have twice life of Lion.
