Nitrogen has been used for many years for inflating aircraft, racing construction vehicle and car tyres.
How about Helium to make a bike lighter, or would you need to fit huge baloon tyres to have sufficent volume to make any difference:eek:

Hell !!!!!

I was only thinking the same thing last night re tyres and maybe helium cushions under/ around batteries. have a feeling we may be missing something tho.

My excuse is the day we did science at my school I was off with a cold :)

I believe helium has been used in tyres before now, on track bikes i think. It does tend to escape easily. Plus for the small difference it makes its not really worth it.

Damn! We missed the obvious.

Helium under pressure is contained in big heavy containers.

End of.

Anyway, back to the drawing board.

You're right John, not enough.

Think of the size of a balloon or airship compared with it's load holder below.

I've quietly slid past my 5000th posting. Hot air, not helium. :D
