Problem with Torq Sora Derailleur

I have a problem with my Torq Sora Derailleur gears.

They have fallen out of adjustment and no matter what I do I can't get them working properly.
If I adjust the cable tight enough for correct operation when changing down, the gears do not work for changing up. So I slacken the cable slightly so they change down OK and then they don’t work changing up.
I have checked for free movement of the derailleur and that the cable moves freely. The gear lever seems to also work correctly.

I’m stuck, any ideas?

look at parktool.com, it is an american site, but has a good step by step guide for gear adjustment. go to website and select repair how to`s, in select a region, select derailleur systems, and hopefully you should be able to sort it.it also has many other helpfull diy explanations, including how to true wheels.

Yes they are tricky to adjust properly. Most likely it is the cable slightly frayed at the shifter end - have you opened it up to have a look as this is where it will go first. I had the same thing and couldn't for the life of me work out what was wrong until the cable eventually snapped.

Went through the same issue and after back and forth with the barrel adjusters, and having no luck. The local bikeshop replaced the cable at a cost of $25 US.

Thanks guys, for all your suggestions.

There is some useful info on the web sites mentioned and it looks like I need to check my cable.

I won't have a chance to tinker until the weekend, but I'll let you know what I find.

Hi All

I thought I would to a quick report back in my problem.

I took the inner cable out and it looked perfect, but replaced it with a new one as the cheapest option.

Surprisingly the gears now work perfectly, so I assume there was something wrong with the old cable, but I could not tell you what!!!!!

It's a maddening thing with derailleurs that they've never shrugged off the ability to stop working properly at the slightest excuse Ian.

The tiniest thing is often all that's needed to mess up operation, and in this case it might have been binding on the inner liner of the outer cable. Pulling out the old inner might have merely removed a fragment of liner or contaminant that could have been stuck in the wire strands.
