Preventing bike being stolen

Featured Replies

I am buying a new ebike. I would like to spray it with a paint to make it look older, but then I was thinking would it affect my guarantee. I am a woman and I am going to work in the darkness in sketchy areas. How can I protect myself the best. Thank you

a light front and rear might help out more than paint but if there are no road lights you will need a powerful one and there not cheap.

I was thinking of carrying a pocket spray paint as well in case somebody will approach me in an aggresive way

making the frame look naff wont mean anything if they want to nick it as will either respray it anyway or throw it in the canal and sell the parts.

all you can do is make it as hard as possible with 3 locks for the 2 wheels and frame.

yeah dont do that as you could blind someone or just really pi$$ them off.

Thanks, I am more concern about my safety when riding. Last time somebody have thrown a stone at me

some twat tried to punch me in my face with a carbon fibre full face helmet on, must have broke every bone in his hand bless him :p

ppl these days are just twats so all you can do is get a gopro and record every ride but at night these things dont like the dark so more light the better.

What about a pocket alarm. Would it be beter than a spray paint. What do you think

yes but remember these days most will carry a knife and it is not worth ur life for any ebike.

get it insured if it dont cost to much.

yes but you will have to pay a monthley fee with most and if the bike is put in the back of a metal van it could stop it from working.

the most expensive part on most ebikes is the batts so remove that and it most likely not be worth there effort.

Do you think covering the brand of the bicycle with self adhrsive foil would help a little?

it depends how much the bike costs say a bike was 1k new stolen it will be £100-200 as will want rid of it asap.

if you get it insured then you wont have to worry about it or get a section one firearms license and buy a hand gun but you will imo get a even worse sentence if you did that lol.

I am so scared as I will have to buy pretty expensive bike as my cycle to work scheme dont give me much choice. Do you think thieves, or rather robbers would look of how expensive the bike is?

Problem is, night time is when the scum come to the surface.

Being a female out alone at night isn't very safe one expects and leaving abike some where equally not clever. If you haven't got a bike think about a step thru or used step thru with a conversion kit, making sure the battery goes with you at all times.

You will need minimum 2 heavy duty d/u locks with 16/18mm shackcle diameter whuch means about 5kg each lock.

Onguard locks are pretty good but none will with stand scum with an angle grinder for more then 2.5 minutes per lock.

well you are going to rob a bmw over a skoda but if they target you not much you can do bar insurance you can get a blank fire pistol but out and about would be more hassle than its worth as swat team will be called and have a load of machine guns pointed at you.
