Presta valves

My new Kalkhoff bike has presta valves, in 30 years of adult biking I've never come across this type of valve.
Today I got a puncture and I had the devils own job inflating the tyre so when I got home I googled presta valves. The ones demonstrated on Youtube are nothing like the ones on my bike.
The ones on my bike have...a tiny dust cap and the valve insert held in place by the valve screw.
The ones shown on Youtube have a large dust cap which when removed show a small screw adjuster which when undone allows air in or out...nothing at all like the valves on my bike.
Can anyone please explain this difference ?
....thanks....Mike

Are you sure they are Presta Mike, here's the usual three:

Kalkhoff often use the Woods/Dunlop valves, popular on the continent but I think awful. We in the UK gave them up many years ago. You can get an adapter to suit the Woods/Dunlop valve or as I've done in the past, change the tubes.

I'm sure Flecc is right, Kalkhoff use the Woods valve which is a dreadful thing.

It's all but impossible to check the tyre pressure, although I understand a Presta pump will usually inflate the tube if you try hard enough.

...that's it Flecc, mines the third :)

Cheers guys, I didn't realize there was a third type of valve.
....change the tubes it is then.
If I'm 'gonna change the tubes might as well go for the Schrader but will the Schrader valve go through the hole in the rim and should I get tubes with extended length valves ?
....I think 50 Cycles are pathetic not to mention it.

Sorry about the late reply Mike. The Schrader valves fit ok but I don't know if your rims need the long valve type. If your rims are double wall deep ones it's best to get them.. What Kalkhoff model have you got?

If you go for Schrader, worth getting tubes with an external thread and locking ring.

This is because to inflate Schrader, you need to press down on the valve.

This can be fiddly if the valve has no locking collar because it will tend to disappear into the tyre.

Those Continentals above have the locking ring, which is why I like 'em.

Also, they will go from 1.75 to 2.5. I've never used them below 1.95, but used them plenty at 2.5 without a problem.

cheers Flecc....I have the Sahel Harmony, the wheels are double walled so it'll have to be long valves, but I'm still a bit undecided on taking the back wheel off, I watched a youtube video but still apprehensive.
