Hello,

I'm aware that I will soon be riding home from work in the dark, most of the roads are well lit, however there is a short 1 mile stretch with very poor lighting and lots of pot holes, can anyone recommend a specific model powerful front light?

Thanks,

Gavin.

Almost an hour after you posted and no answer Gavin. They're a gloomy lot, leaving you in the dark like this. :D

I can't help as I avoid night riding, but hopefully others will see the light in the morning and answer. :)

I use Dinotte's 5W li-ion lights - on one :: Calderdale's 2nd biggest bike company

I cycle about 7 miles home of which 4-5 miles is on unlit country roads, and the Dinottes light the way nicely. The rear light is probably car fog light brightness, and drivers tend to give me lots of room.

I have two front lights, though one is enough really. I have one on the bars and one on my helmet which is handy for staring at drivers approaching junctions, etc. Drivers tend to take a double take as the lights are so bright, and wait rather than pull out, assuming that I am travelling faster than I am.

They're small, tough, portable, bright - and expensive :(

I have a Cat Eye Led light and it is very bright. Cost varies; I bought it for £19.95 but have seen it for £25. Of course I do have a reflective jacket which goes over my fleece which I think is a must; its great when its not quite dark enought to put your lights on, but car drivers can see you.

As a car driver also ..... please don't use those flashing lights, its very distracting, just have a very bright light as above!

For those with money to burn, it looks like Lupine have finally surpassed their superb HID lights with the new LED light, the Lupine Betty (strange name!).

Click on Products then LightTest for some interesting comparisons. It's not going to be cheap though!
