Powatryke battery

My father has just been given an old powatryke but no charger. He has a powabyke shopper with charger. As the batteries are the same rating can he use the charger with the tryke? If so how do I wire a conversion cable? The charger has a phono connector but the tryke battery has 2 sockets, 1 is a 3 pin kettle type and the other is a small female 4 pin type which is behind a knurled screw cap. Any help keeping this 74 year old rolling will be appreciated.

You need to make up a flylead like the one shown by a charger in the photo below. This one I made up to connect the charger shown to two different connectors. Basically it's a cable with a connector of the opposite gender to the one on the charger on one end, and a connector for the Powatryke battery charging connector (almost certainly the smaller one) on the other end.

Only two wires are needed in the cable, positive and negative, so you will need a meter to check which is which at each end and connect accordingly.

I cannot know what the connectors are without seeing them, the one you call a phono won't be, it's probally a microphone type connector like the one at the l/h end of the flylead in the photo. You should find the right connectors by looking in those supplied by Maplin through their local shops or mail order, but if you can photo the connectors and display them here we can help with the identification:

thanks for the reply. The lead I need to make looks the other way round from yours. So I'll need a female Phono (speaker) jack to a Multiway. just need to check which pins are live and neutral on the battery socket. Photos to follow.

tryke battery has 2 sockets, 1 is a 3 pin kettle type and the other is a small female 4 pin type which is behind a knurled screw cap.

The 4 pin connector behind the knurled scew cap it not a charge point. it is used to test each cell during a discharge test. Don't even thing about connecting a charger to it
