Hi
we have a powabyke trike with a powered front wheel all original
But today the trike stopped, went through it as best i know and got to the front hub
i put 12v direct to the wires from the motor and nothing
So because i live in Bulgaria i cant pop down the shops

Here is what i have done
I found a really helpful man who sent me a repair manual for the hub,( Frank Curran ,your a star )
So i started taking it apart an noticed the 2 wires that go into the hub are twisted ,at first i thought it was a factory thing then saw one was broken
,ah ha problem solved ,not quite
Stripped it all down had new wires soldered onto the plate with the brushes ,but the twisted wires ???i cant work it out
so tried a 12v battery on the cables an all it does is click,
The part what the brushes push up against (is that an mature????) does not turn .is it suposed to turn freely???
so i put it all back on the bike but if i wheel the bike backwards the 2 wires that power the hub twist.
so i am stuffed now
have not got a clue why
the gears are grease and have no marks ,all look new
is the motor supposed to turn freely
now i am searching for a repair shop in the UK to send it

I have stripped down a Powabyke hub, but it was about three years ago, and my memory is poor these days. The part that the brushes push up against is called an Armature. I seem to remember that the instruction manual does not show the hub stripdown. I think that somewhere on this site, there are some photographs of a hub stripdown. Can anyone remember where to find them?

I have never seen the problem you describe. It sounds like a mechanical problem. I think that the plate that carries the brushes should be locked to the wheel axle. The twisted wires tell me it is not locked, and is turning with the wheel.

We desperately need more help from someone with more recent experience here, to get this guy back on the road. Can anyone help? Perhaps D8veh?

some internal pics 005.JPG 010.JPG 014.JPG motor gb 2.jpg009.JPG The wires can only twist if the motor has turned in the forks.

I also have a complete good working motor in a 24" wheel £30 plus postage if you are interested.
