Hi,

I have a Milan which I purchased September, 2006, and it has had very little use, I have probably only done about 50 miles in total.

The problem I have with it is that the last time I used it the drive ceased to work, even though the motor was turning as normal.

I have contacted the supplier, Powerscoots, for advice, and they have failed to respond in any way.

I have since ascertained that the fault was on the planetary gearing, one of which seized and as a consequence stripped the teeth off the three planetary gears.

My problem is that none of the suppliers of PowaCycles that I have contacted have replied to my request for information regarding spares.
It appears that once you have parted with your money you are on your own.

I also discovered that Powacycle was part of a larger group of companies called Akhter and I was going to write them to see if they could stir their company into action, but they are now inaccessible.

Any ideas or suggestions.

Akhter was originally a computer company, switching to e-bikes later. It's sad to hear this since when they first started with the bikes, they were giving excellent service, but it does seem to have deteriorated of late.

Spare parts aren't normally available for any of these Chinese made hub motors since in normal use they are extremely reliable. Yours standing idle for so long obviously did it no good, probably allowing the high temperature grease to harden and clog. On the rare occasion that a motor does fail, the common course of action is a new motor wheel complete, and it's probably best to explore getting a new wheel from Powacycle.

Thanks for the reply flecc, but unfortunately it's getting Powacycle to reply that is the problem.

I am hoping that some other supplier may be able to assist.

I notice that the chap who used to answer the queries regarding Powacycle on this Forum has left. Perhaps it was a case of leaving a sinking ship.

If not, then perhaps Powacycle will respond.

Regarding the suggestion of a new wheel, I would have though that it was possible to replace the motor assembly within the wheel, which would be considerably easier and cheaper.

But of course it is dependent on Powacycle responding to my request for advice.

Maybe Paul, but dependent on being correctly assembled and aligned, something far from certain, and if that's not done, it could lead to a rapid failure again.

Factory built wheels are very low cost and are included in a container load of bikes so would have no measurable transit cost. To give an idea of the small sums we're dealing with here, complete hub motors are available retail at between 45 and 55 dollars in the West, about £24 at current rates. That's retail, so the costs are very much lower, and rebuild labour cost would probably be very much more than the difference between wheel and motor centre assembly.

Hi Paul, if you require your wheel to be refurbished, we use a guy called Phil Spencer, he can arrange collection of your wheel and refurbish it for you. Please contact Phil on 01384 253976. He is very good and will warranty the wheel for 12 months once he has done the refurb.
