Oh Dear...

Riding along on the 'ol Wisper, currently in fine fettle, when suddenly.....nothing. Dead, zippo, zilch, nothingness (no lights, power etc) :( .
Must have blown a fuse I thought - but no. Fuse taken out of battery and tested it's completely OK. Take out wiring, (there's rather a lot in a little space) wondering if there are any other in line fuses I may have missed, but I can't find any. Battery is fine. Wiring is sound - no loose connections or broken wires I can find anywhere.
It appears there is power getting to the controller, but it doesn't seem to be able to get out again.
Can anybody tell me , am I being daft, have I missed something simple and obvious, or is it likely that the controller has fried and died  ?

Could it be one of the brake switches, what do the power lights show ?
Thanks for the reply.
I'm sure its not the brake switches. I wasn't touching the brakes at the time.
There are no lights at all, the electrics are completely dead, but as I said the battery and fuse are fine.

Phil,

My first thought is water in the electrics, but if you are sure there is plenty of power in the battery, it has to be the controller or the wiring.

May I suggest you post this thread in the http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/ section, you will get a lot more response from the experts.

Thanks Mussells and Aldy.

I have the cables @ the rear well trussed up and clear of the rear wheel, so no problem there.
What's dry? Haven't seen much recently  . It was not especially wet though and certainly its been through a lot worse without problems. I took out the controller and all the associated wiring and it was perfectly dry. I'm pretty sure this isn't a water problem.
I'll 'phone ETS tomorrow (that's where I got the bike from) and see what they suggest, but to be honest I'm pretty certain that I've been a bit unlucky and suffered a controller failure.

Cheers, Phil

Ok, I think the problem is solved (well, diagnosed at least).
It seems the power switch has gone permanently open circuit! Thought I had tested it last night but obviously didn't do it properly (may have accidentally shorted the probes on my tester whilst reaching for the switch - giving me a 'false positive').
Will contact supplier tomorrow.
Thanks everyone,
Phil.

Hi Phil

Sorry to hear about the problem, if ETS can't sort it out please contact Norman at service@wisperbikes.com he will get you on the road again.

Best regards david
Many thanks, David.

I have 'phoned ETS who were very helpful and we have agreed that I will send them the suspect bits for them to check out, so we'll take it from there. We'll keep Norman on standby for the moment!

Cheers, James.

P.S. New metal brake levers make a HUGE difference - stoppies no problem (well, except for the landing that is :D )

I can't find the recent thread where someone mentioned this, did you get them from a donor bike or were you able to source them somewhere else? I've been looking for different brake pads but looks like I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Braking up the wrong tree

Hi Mussels

I sent the new brake levers to Phil to try out. If you like a I can arrange to have some sent to you when the new container lands.

All the best David

Hi Mussels

I also can't quite remember who posted the the thread, but to be honest I remember David posting quite a while ago that he had identified the levers as the root cause of the Wisper's indifferent braking. I changed my brake disc to an Avid BB07 (which helped and which I don't regret because it is a damn fine disc brake) and I replaced the cables with very high quality Jagwires, which also helped.
HOWEVER, changing the levers.......well all else pales in comparison with the change it makes. You can't pull the lever back to the bars now...It is a chalk and cheese improvement.
Just one thing though, the levers as supplied had different connectors on to the standard ones, so you'll have to chop off the old lever connectors and do a little 'soldering iron surgery' to fit the new ones. Well worth it though.

Cheers, Phil

That would be great, I've still got the original Promax brakes as they seem good as long as I can get enough pressure on the cable.

Hi David
I'd be very interested in trying the new brake levers if at all possible? I've still got the Promax too on my 905se, and from what Phil says I should see quite an improvement just by changing the levers. Anyway, grovel grovel!
Regards,
Howard

David, please add me to the list of those on their knees begging to try the new levers.

Thanks
