Hi
First post but I have done a bit of reading and getting the idea but a few pointers from experience would be welcome.

I am moving to Spain for better weather but working and commuting back to the UK every 4 weeks. If we enjoy it out there then it might be a permanent move.

Anyway during the trial period I am not really fussed to get a car set up out there and think we will get a couple of Ebikes as main means of transport. So besides riding for pleasure will need the bike to have a basic carrying ability as there is limited public transport to town and the markets.

So I presume the EU law is similar on power limits etc to the new Uk stuff I have seen mentioned.

My concern with 250 watt motors and power limiting is I am 18-19 stone 6ft 2 and have recently had knee surgery. So yes I need to get back to my old weight and fitness over the coming year but in terms of touring around doing chores and picking up supplies is a 250watt bike going to do the job.

Iam looking now at the idea of shipping a 500/750 watt conversion kit probably Barfang mid drive to fit to a bike purchased out in Spain. Rather than buying here as a complete bike then either driving or shipping them over.

I am still not sure the benefits or rear/mid/front but mid drive seems to have fans.

On one hand I am not a speed freak and dont want to break the law but on the other if I am discreet I will not really draw attention and I need a tool fit for the job.

Any ideas or pointer would be very helpful

thanks Jez

BH and Orbea have large ranges of e-bikes that will be sold by your LBS in Spain so for your guarantee it will be easier. They will also blend into the local environment. Buy good locks and lock your bike everywhere.

All 250 W bikes are "nominative" power and most all deliver up to 540 W in higher levels of assistance. Where are you going in Spain? Road conditions vary between flat coastal towns and the more mountainous regions.

Don't forget to buy helmets which are mandatory as soon as you leave the city limits.
