Hi guys,

this is my first post and i am looking to purchase a pedelec or pedelec conversion kit.

this is where i need your advice on which one to go for?

the maximum distance i travel is 15 miles and 15 miles back. it consists of flat and hilly area. there are no stop signs....

i want something "FAST".... i understand in EU, there are restrictions and law as to how fast the pedelecs can go but i am not in EU. In fact I am in the Middle East and there is no law on electric bikes, YET!

also i prefer something which can go offroad as well...

so what is out there for me? should i go for a pedelec or a pedelec conversion kit?

You should convert of any/all/some of the following apply to you:

1. You already have a half decent bike you want to convert.
2. You have some basic electrical and mechanical competence, or are willing to learn.
3. You have a basic toolkit, Inc. Multimeter, files, soldering iron, or are willing to purchase.
4. You enjoy tinkering.
5. You are not in a massive hurry.
6. You want something special, unusual or unique.

In the UK I can convert a bike for around £650 of parts. That will get you a machine that will climb like a goat, cruise at 23mph and go for about 35-45 miles. Cheaper alternatives are available if you don't need such performance.

I suggest that you visit the forum on Endless-sphere.com, where you can see lots of exampleas of fast converted bike.

You can buy a 1000w kit on Ebay very cheaply, then you need a 48v battery of at least 15aH (20aH ideal), to do 30 mph and 30 miles. If you want faster, you need a 72v kit from EM3ev.com.

A ready-made electric bike that goes fast will be very expensive.

Kits from em3ev can be easily installed or will be hard without instructions?

I think the claim is a little bit OTT.
Although the controller will go up to 25A, the limiting factor is the battery, 48V 11A, maximum draw is 22A.
30-33mph is more likely.

If you go fast on it, the maximum distance would be about 15 miles. The top speed they quote is downhill with the wind behind it. You need 1000w to do 30mph.
