PDQ Throttle Replacement

Hi I have a trike controller which recently stopped responding to the throttle. I ordered a 'universal' replacement from Amazon but when I connect this the motor starts immediately and the throttle has no effect.

I have tested the wiring from the controller and get 9V across black +ve and white -ve., so assumed the red is the signal cable. Looking at the new throttle information it is made for 5v, so I think I need a different replacement throttle.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong or pointers to order a new throttle would be appreciated.
Thanks Nick

That doesn't sound right at all. Most throttles are 5v unless it's a potentiometer type.

Red, black and white are very common colours for throttle wires. Always red is the 5v, black is ground and white is signal. If you connected it incorrectly, with the signal wire to the supply (normally5v), you would get full throttle.

You should post pictures of your previous throttle, present one, your motor from each side and the motor connector pins, then we can figure out what you have and what you can do.

As per vfr reply red v+, Black Gnd & white sig.
In the third pic one assumes that the sq block on the throttle wire end is a step down regulator.
9v/12v rails are used on some ability scooter stuff.

I have measured between red and black reading jumps from -180 mV to + 180mV
white and red reading also jumps on mV scale
black and white = -9V DC constant

The square block is just a cover for the connector

I will have a look at the suggestions
Thanks
Nick

You didn't show the thing that I asked for, which is the only thing I really need to know. What pins are in that motor connector? It looks like a brushed motor, but I need to be certain before pronouncing judgement.

Why can't you guys ever just give us what we ask for, so that we can help you. It's really tedious and frustrating.

Sorry about that, do the images from the repair manual give you information?

Thanks for the reply, the controller is marked as PDQ-0031C.

I have spoken to Steve at 4QD, who suggested dropping the controller output voltage using zener diode / resistor pair

Please keep us informed if you solve the issue as we like a good ending.

Finally got a pair of resistors and checked this solution, but still no control

If you can see the photos I posted today, what more do you want to see. It shows the motor being taken out of the hub?
