September 12, 201312 yr I am struggling to fit my trusty old panniers to my new Woosh Santana. The problem is that there is minimal space around the carrier top tube for the metal hooks to attach because of the presence of the battery. Some attention with a hacksaw to the hooks may solve the problem, so its not the end of the world, but I would prefer a more elegant solution. Perhaps a double pannier with connections over the top (eg Avenir) would be an answer. Double panniers would give me more capacity than I really need though. Any suggestions?
September 12, 201312 yr Author Any chance of some photos of the issue.! Thanks Good idea. I'm on the case tomorrow.
September 13, 201312 yr Author You will see that there is hardly any clearance, looking vertically down, between the battery and the top tube - about 1mm say. This means that a pannier attachment with a fixing >1mm will not fit in the gap. For example my Altura briefcase attaches on with plastic clips far bigger than 1mm so I can't use that any more on the Woosh. The existing pannier shown is a diy solution achieved by bending the metal clips as best I could. It's not very elegant.
September 13, 201312 yr It's a shame they don't fit racks designed like the Topeak ones which have a secondary bar to fix your pannier hooks onto a little below the top of the rack and a little bevelled out to the side. You can see the design on this : http://www.evanscycles.com/products/topeak/super-tourist-dx-bike-rack-ec033798?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=froogle&utm_content=mkwid__pcrid_17321847296_kword__match__plid_ However even with that design, if you need to get your fingers behind to release a clip the battery would likely be in the way. Never been a fan having batteries fitted in that location ! Any panniers of this design are probably the best bet : Avenir Double Sized Pannier | GO Outdoors You can find smaller ones if you look around - just spread the weight of what you put in them to keep things balanced. September 13, 201312 yr Author The Avenir was the one I looked at. Probably a bit too big for my purposes though. I like the way they disguise the battery but I would still need to check the fixing arrangements I guess because I've no idea they attach.
September 14, 201312 yr I have this one, which might suit. It's well-made and attaches with straps: Basil Mara Double Pannier Bag | Evans Cycles
