When charging a Panasonic battery is it best practice to keep it on charge until all 5 lights have come on and then extinguished or to stop charging at 5 lights to prevent strain on the battery?

Its only supposed to be fully charged when the lights go out so i would assume that is best practice.

If your journeys are only about half or a little over of the total possible range, it is worth cutting the charge at the point the fifth LED comes on since this will avoid the charge extremes, full and empty, both of which stress the cells the most.

If cutting that top 20% of charge means you have to use the battery to almost empty, you won't gain anything and may even lose out a bit.

Also bear in mind that in the long term range declines with cell age, so what is ok now may not be in 18 months time when the range may leave you emptying the 80% charged battery each trip.

Many thanks for the advice. I rarely allow the battery to fall below 3 lights as I have a short but hilly commute. In future I'll go for stopping charging at 5 lights during the week and just go to full - '5 lights and out' - when I'm planning a long leisure ride.
