Hi to all, I am looking for an ebike around the £1000 mark. I like the look of both the Kudos and the Oxygen. The Kudos seems fairly easy to find, but does anyone know where I could find the Oxygen,as everywhere seems to be out of stock. Would like to test ride both before committing. Also,in your opinions, which bike is the better. I will be riding about 8 miles a day, and up a couple of steep hills. Thanks for your time,G

South Yorkshire Electric Bike Centre is the distributor for Oxygen. They should be able to explain the stock situation. Maybe they'll do you a deal on the 13Ah one, which is much better. Tell them you wanted the 11Ah one. Try and make them feel guilty if they don't have it, and use that as your bargaining power.

The Kudos has a bigger motor than thw 11Ah Oxygen for more torque. The 13Ah Oxygen also has a larger high torque motor, but slightly higher specification, as it's a cassette motor.

Hi, thanks for your replies. Am new to this,so don't shoot the newbie for this question. Am thinking of converting a Cannondale Trail 6 29er, to a rear hub drive, so I get a better spec bike. What would be the ideal kit to use for this bike, around the £600 mark complete? Would a Bafang BPM be possible, from a UK Supplier?

The big question is ideal for what? Different kits have different speeds, ranges and torques. Until you say your weight and what you expect your bike to do, you'll be lucky to get a meaningful suggestion.

So, there you are. Bang. You've been shot. Sorry.

At the risk of replying to a corpse...

The 13ah Oxygen MTB is a reasonable quality bicycle, about the same as the Trail 6, although the Oxygen has better branded brakes.

Where your plan should score is cost.

You might be able to get an Oxygen for £1,500.

A Trail 6 is about £450, motor kit and good quality battery shouldn't be more than £600.

The two motors have about the same grunt, so your build would give you a similar bike to the Oxygen, but for about £500 less.

what is the weight of Trail 6?
It has Cannondale's cheaper hardtail mountain bike frame and the components are not the lightest.

A reasonable estimate would be about 14kg.

Tis OK d8veh, was only a flesh wound. You are right, I will be more specific. I am 5'11 and around 85kg. I want to use the Bike for commuting, its about 5 miles downhill one way, but steep in parts on the way home. I have just started a Coffee shop and would like to attach a light trailer, in case I need supplies. This part of the journey is flat, but thought the grunt of the Tornado at light speeds might be good for this.
Trail 6 is around 13kg, so a 6-7kg kit would be great.
RobF- where would I find a good kit, with Battery for £600 please? Found this for £600
OXYDrive CST HT 36V 13Ah electric bike conversion kit
any good for my purposes?

The info you gave allows us to be more specific. The 13Ah Oxydrive is great for fast commuting and it can climb hills pretty well, so it would have been perfect, but as soon as you mention a trailer, the warning sirens go off. At 25mph with a 700c wheel, it's a little fast for its power. It's better in a 26" wheel and OK for a bike plus rider up to about 100kg as long as you keep the speed up, but it's less suitable for winching loads up hills. For that you need a slower motor or a crank-drive.

If you didn't care about legalities, a Chinese 500w Bafang CST kit would be good. You get a lot more torque and a top speed of about 22 mph.

Most rear hub-motors have freewheel gears, which means 8 speed max and that will mess up your changers a bit. There's not many high-torque cassette motors. It's looking like yourvbest option is a crank-motor kit, which might just fit in your budget. That's if anybody has stock. You can still buy them direct from China though.

to pull a trailer up hills, the BBS02 36V 25A 500W (high torque) would be your best bet.
woosh have them in stock, you can order online.
With 36V 15AH battery and charger, total cost is about £365+£315 = £680.
