image.jpg image.jpg first time ever on a made for MTBERS trail today. It was the "Follow the Dog" trail at Cannock Birchhills Valley.

So much fun. I had the time of my life.

That is until my 55 year old 16 stone entity misjudged a rock jump.

I landed with my bum in the saddle......suspension bottomed out severe pain in my nuts and me and my KTM go our separate ways.

I eventual manage to draw a full breath and stand (nuts still in agony) to see my KTM looking very sheepish on the opposite side of the trail. First inspection doesn't reveal anything significant. However I realuse once I sit on the bike that the rear tyre is flat.

Damage Report
Pinch puncture 5 places. Repaired later at home just long enough to hear air escaping when I tigten up the wheel :-(

Seat tilting up....... Appears my nuts bent the seat post. Ouch

Jeez! I've always wanted a lay-back seatpin. I wondered where people got them from. I didn't know you had to make them.

At least the pin didn't punch through the saddle - it's been known on cheap and nasty bikes.

OMG ... That would have been nasty!

At least I'm just bruised with a the punctured tube rather than a punctured bum lol.

got a dodgy back this morning should go away though.

I'm thinking the damping is to much on the shock because there were several drops in quick succession (probably why I lost it) and maybe the travel was already extended by the time I hit the last one?

I had done similar ones all day that hadn't troubled the suspension.

So should I get the same post ie. the KTM Team black and orange or should I splash out on something like seat post suspension or other gadgety post?

General wisdom would be a plain post for a ful sus bike, so like for like in your case.

As ever with cycling, there is a dearer option - a dropper post.

This enables you to drop the saddle for the more technical bits, so when the back end of the bike is pinged upwards, the saddle is less likely to smack you on the backside and eject you.

General info here:

http://www.dropperseatpost.com/

The site's not been updated for a while, but will give you a good start.

Bigclick, one aspect that could also be worth checking now is that your wheels aren't buckled. That must have been one hell of a hit, and I've certainly buckled a front wheel hitting less than you sadly did.
All credit to whoever manufactures the frame as well. That must have put a fair bit of strain on the seat post tube.

I did spin the rim and visually it looked ok. I don't have any tools to test for a buckle

Nasty incident! I hope your body recovers quickly so you can get back on the trails once you have a new seat post and have some more fun.
It was worth the pain. I had such a great time. I think I need to reign it in a bit though.... 55 year old lump on an alloy MTB might not be so lucky next time.

Quite an achievement. I had a recent "incident" on the MTB as well - on a blue trail. Got into so much fun that I forgot I was going too fast for my bike/ability and shakes hand with a tree. Must have flew about 3/4 metres but landed very luckily - not a scratch on me (touch wood). Unfortunately the bike didn't fare that well though

Yes, poor hung indeed. Just got it completely fixed up as well with new cables all round, complete service and everything... Been standing around for a couple of years at my big bro'... Anyway a replacement fork is on its way so hopefully will have it back on the trail in no time. Much too much fun to give up that easily although the next time I might not be so lucky so will have to take it a bit easier

Could have been so much worse - the saddle could have been in your bum!
Imagine trying to work that one out!
