Thanks for the link. Every great journey start with a single step. Seems you have plenty of traffic-free routes. I was about to reply earlier, but had to wait until my unexpected visitors had left before doing so.
If I may pick your brains regarding the uploading of your video. What I would ask of you, did Youtube offer to "stabilise" your clip at the end of the upload? And did you decline the offer, or allow the stabilising process to be carried out?
As you will have noticed on my own video, there was some camera shake on the chest harness footage. Youtube offered to stabilise the clip, but I wasn't sure how this would effect the video, so I declined the offer. However, I wish I had...the compression process greatly accentuated the camera shake on the published video. When viewing the pre-editing raw footage from the camera, the degree of shake was nowhere near as great as in the published video.
Perhaps I should carry out a little experiment by uploading a short clip of wobbly chest harness footage, allow youtube to "stabilise" it and see what the results are.
Apparently the process they use to stabilise shaky videos is quite advanced, but I have read some reports of a distinct waviness in processed files.
Looking forward to your next production.

My camera is on the handlebars so you can imagine the shake I've got.
Yes youtube did offer to stabilise it and I accepted. I thought I'd see what it came out like. It came out a bit smoother.
As to traffic free routes. The cycle path is the start of a big leisure project going on so soon there should be miles of paths to cycle on. That path in the video actually runs in between the M9 motorway and a main by-pass road, both of which are busy but you cycle in peace.
I live about 5 miles from there at the top of a few hills so sometimes I go down to cycle on the flat.

Now that I've seen the waviness effect of the stabilising process, I'm going to start working on elliminating the shake at source.
The view from the chest harness is important in presenting the "virtual ride" aspect of the video, and to that end I'm going to develope a new frame mounting for that Point-Of-View. This will involve a fair bit of metal-bashing, and of course it will need to fold flat should I need to come off the saddle a bit quick.
Couldn't agree more about traffic-free routes, it being so much more relaxing when not having to constantly watch the rear-view mirror for bike-munching cage-drivers intent on taking us out.

Was wondering what the wave effect was..thought maybe an acid trip.
I have a handlebar mount for my camera but reluctant to use it because of shake. Also i cant capture what i am looking at while riding, the road ahead becomes a bit boring after a while. Head band works well except for picking up view of my glasses and eyebrows.

The camerea is a cheap muvi thing and can't handle the bike vibrating. I need to look at mounting it on me rather than the bike I guess.
The sound from the camera is horendous, even when not moving and in the house there is a lot of noise on the recordings.
Here is my first attempt from last winter in Spain..you might have seen it you might not. I think I did not select smoothing but not sure.... Personally think head mount better as you see all around so ride more interesting and no shake.
Son added music, edited it right down, and speeded it up as he found it to long and boring. so its a bit of fun rather then anything else

I like making them too. Now I've got a faster SDHC card in my little MD80 camera I can do videos easier. I'm curious to know what camera you used and how you mounted it..?
It's a tiny little thing called Veho Muvi. It is only a cheapie. It's mounted to the handlebars by a moubt that came with it and it has 2 velcro straps to hold it on. It isn't very tight, actually it's not tight at all which is probably causing some of the problems.Nice one Jim, I always like watching peoples videos
I'm curious to know what camera you used and how you mounted it..?
