I want (need) to motorise a 4 wheeled garden cart. I'm thinking 12v Lead Acid to save money. Can any one suggest a forum where I could get specific help regarding automotive sourced motors etc.?

You should look at robotics forums, where they do that sort of thing.

If you can find an electric wheelchair or motability scooter (depending how big & heavy your cart is) you might get everything you need. Beware older batteries might need replacing.
