April 9, 201610 yr After 3 years use almost every day and charged almost every day too the battery of my nexus 7 seems to be on its last legs... Lets say 1000 charge/discharge cycles. I don't want to run out and get a new tablet because they don't make them like this, or if they do it is going to be twice the price (iPad Air). Looks like I'm going to be getting that smartphone after all... The tablet just needs to hang in there until payday. 67€ smartphone (will be used as a backup tablet not a phone) + 60+€ battery will be coming out of the money destined for my new bike. B@gger...
April 9, 201610 yr Probably less with shopping around. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Google-Nexus-Genuine-C11-ME370T-0B200-00120100/dp/B00FKUMQP2
April 9, 201610 yr Author Second generation... https://www.amazon.fr/Asus-Batterie-génération-0B200-00420600M-0B200-00420700/dp/B00ID3T5VG?ie=UTF8&creative=22698&creativeASIN=B00ID3T5VG&hvdev=t&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=&linkCode=df0&ref_=asc_df_B00ID3T5VG33115784&tag=googshopfr-21 It has gone down a little but I need opening tools too
April 10, 201610 yr Author So I went and looked at the iPads... That can wait till next year. The cheap phone will do nicely and it was my plan to put one on the handlebars later anyway - GPS, interface for Bluetooth enabled battery, hey why not a Bluetooth rearview mirror/camera/thang...
April 10, 201610 yr It isnt a difficult job to put a new battery in and much cheaper on ebay. You don't really need special tools to open it, a guitar plectrum would do. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Battery-For-Asus-Google-Nexus-7-Razor-New-Kit-2nd-Gen-2013-C11-P1304-C11P1304-/252336462885?hash=item3ac06cdc25:g:BvAAAOSwwpdW-jxd
April 10, 201610 yr Get an external battery. You can use them on any phone. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Mobile-Phone-PDA-Accessories-/9394/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=power+pack&_sac=1#seeAllAnchorLink
April 10, 201610 yr Author Yes I have an external battery but it is a bit cumbersome behind the tablet. I think I'll have to stick it on with double sided tape...
April 16, 201610 yr I have a Nexus 7 as well and I'd hate to be without it, use it probably 2-3 hours a day, every day. I'm on my second Nexus now (Hubby still uses my first one) so I've used one daily for about 4 years. You can still get new Nexus 7 or refurbished with 12 months warranty on EBay UK for around £90 - is that not possible in France or do you not know anyone in the UK who could buy one for you? I have had smartphones as well as the Nexus 7 for several years now and I don't find the phone to be a good substitute for the tablet. I find I just use the smartphone when I'm away from the house but always use the tablet (or my Chromebook) in the house. It goes on holiday with me as well, I'd hate to be without it.
April 16, 201610 yr I got a rechargeable power pack from Aldi for £9.99....Have you thought about one of those and apply some Velcro to it and rear of your tablet ? cheap option until you get a new tablet ?

April 16, 201610 yr a couple of years ago I had my laptop ''repaired'' at PC WORLD...When I picked it up it looked like they had used a claw hammer and a socket set to repair it and had the nerve to say it was like that when I left it with them.. They were adamant that it was my fault..Then I played the trump card with a pic from my phone of the laptop on the service counter of the pc world branch, complete with a pic of the same guy in the background !!!!!!!! Result = New laptop, better one than I had before and a boat load of vouchers to spend in store - so I cleaned them out !!!
April 16, 201610 yr Author You can still get new Nexus 7 or refurbished with 12 months warranty on EBay UK for around £90 - is that not possible in France or do you not know anyone in the UK who could buy one for you? I can get a new one but this one is just fine, no scratches looks like new, except for the dead battery which I will swap the battery out but in the meantime I need a tablet - can't work without one. If I replace it will be an iPad mini 4
April 16, 201610 yr Author I got a rechargeable power pack from Aldi for £9.99....Have you thought about one of those and apply some Velcro to it and rear of your tablet ? cheap option until you get a new tablet ? I have one but the BMS is rejecting it. It charges to a certain level then stops and refuses to recognise the charger. Then it works again...
April 16, 201610 yr I charge the battery pack from an old phone 1amp phone charger...takes about 5 hrs from flat to a full charge .. Then connect to ipads/ iphones / lights / wifes galaxy via a usb ....not had any issues and for £9.99 its a bargain with a 3 year guarantee
April 16, 201610 yr I bought a few of these and fill them with good cells from faulty ebike batteries. They last forever. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/White-13000mAh-LED-Dual-USB-Power-Bank-5x18650-Battery-Charger-Box-Holder-Cell-/272112633894?hash=item3f5b2d4826:g:VloAAOSwa-dWofOP
April 16, 201610 yr Author OK so here are the symptoms: Today plugged the charger in and turned off the screen. Charged to around 30% then stopped I didn't touch it and by the time I got back to it charge was down to 19% now it is plugged into the external battery and at 9% It will stay at around 9% refusing to go over that charge no matter how long it is plugged in My vote is knackered Lipo pouch battery...
April 16, 201610 yr I'd agree. In which case get a replacement and fit it, which doesn't look tobe very difficult: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/291271604292?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=122&chn=ps&googleloc=1007151&poi=&campaignid=207297426&device=c&adgroupid=13585920426&rlsatarget=aud-133395220626%3Apla-131843278866&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=122
April 29, 20169 yr Author An update now that my computer is fixed, it died a couple of days after the tablet battery... Heads up to other nexus 7 owners: My nexus 7 is the 2013 model, much slimmer and different battery to the original nexus 7. When the external battery is plugged in it is seen as an AC charger. So now that the internal battery is as dead as a dodo it is refusing current from any source and the tablet will not power up even with a fully charged external battery plugged in. Brilliant move ASUS... I have found a replacement battery on amazon for 52€ which is less painful than the "official" replacement and a tool kit for 2€, just waiting on pay day now to get it ordered
April 29, 20169 yr Thanks for this information. Lots of us have got these magic little machines and you get that you sort of depend on them. Use mine 2/3 hours a day so it's nice to know there are battery replacements out there.
April 29, 20169 yr On the subject of the Nexus 7 I had the other well known problem of the micro USB failing, now it can be replaced but it isn't the easiest of jobs. I took the other option and bought a charging pad which was an easy and cheap solution to the non charging problem. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-White-Qi-Wireless-Charging-Charger-Pad-for-iPhone-Samsung-Sony-Nexus-HTC-LG-/271974406032?hash=item3f52f01790:g:C7MAAOSwDNdV5B7W
April 29, 20169 yr Thanks for that as well. I HATE that USB connection with a vengeance! I can sometimes try the damn wire in 4 times each way and it still won't go in properly. I'm always afraid of breaking it and I probably will one day.
September 13, 20187 yr Author Lasted from April 2016 till September 2018. Not bad for an aftermarket battery. Now do I change it again or get that macbook that I can do other stuff than play games on...
September 13, 20187 yr till September 2018. Now do I change it again or get that macbook that I can do other stuff than play games on... You might want to see some of Louis Rossmaan's videos before shelling out for a macbook.. wheeler
