Odometer problems

My hiabike with a Yamaha motor type has been faultless over the last 14 months since new, but I’ve developed a problem with the odometer.
I record every one of my rides which has highlighted this problem.
A few times now I will do mileage which is higher than recorded even though my trip is recording fine.
The fault will either be no extra milage recorded or just a few miles not responding to the trip. The trip is accurate as many rides are my usual routes.
I've cleaned the Cadence sender and made sure the magnet is also clean which doesn’t seem to have done the trick.
Any help greatly received.

It may be a silly question but does the display have a battery which could need replacing?

yes it does but the time reinstates each time after shut down, which I believe is a good indicator of display battery problems.
Everything else is fine just the odometer totals up erratically

It still might be the battery, as it may be low/at its end, so to say. Still high enough to power a clock, but nothing else as well.......
Just a thought!

Updat for anyone who’s interested.

I returned it for a diagnostic., there were no faults but he replaced the display battery and said that was the problem.
I’m not convinced but willkeep an eye on it.
