Odometer "flipped" at 6K miles, possible cause?

I have a Vintage Electric Tracker that appears to have a King-Meter WH-527 display. I noticed that the odometer seems to have flipped back to zero after hitting what I believe to be 6,000 miles. I have reached out to the bike manufacturer as to why this would have happened, but they have not been able to come up with a cause. Anyone here have suggestions as to why this might have happened?

Thanks.

A wild guess here but 6000 mile is almost 10000km. Many go back to zero at 10000km but some (e.g LCD3) will keep the hours. Perhaps some internal counter actually counts in Km but converts to miles afterwards for the display. Seems weird but anything is possible.

Could be an app or OS incompatibility error, with programmers assuming some new version of the app would have been avaiable by 6000km by now, according to some previously set but unfulfilled schedule... but if the manufacturer hasn't heard reports of the same problem, maybe check that your speedometer magnet(s) are close enough to the sensor - if you have that sort of speedo setup - because that could cause a software error in that part of the program if the readings from it aren't being picked up properly. On the other hand it could be just a badly programmed app: I'd try deleting "All data" from the app and uninstall, power down, reboot and reinstall the app. Also try the same app on a friend's phone, if your mate uses another OS, or a different version of your OS.

There is actually no app with this bike (surprising given the cost). The data is strictly on the display unit. I've attached photos showing both the actual odometer and the trip odometer (with the latter showing more mileage than the former).

Supposedly the bike manufacturer is looking into it, but I might just reach out directly to King-Meter, who makes the display unit.

Thanks for the input, however.

Opps, sorry... didn't read the post properly - I think I was thinking of some other post. Could be dicky operating memory leading to a firmware error, or rubbish firmware which could be updated, or if under warranty the display could be replaced? Can't be the magnets if it's showing trip correctly.

This is certainly a "first world problem" and luckily everything else seems to be working fine. I am sure the bike manufacturer would replace it under warranty (they are pretty good about that), but at this point it is probably more trouble than it is worth.

BTW, this forum is fantastic, glad I found it!

Yes it could be an auto reset as some displays reset at 9999km, though 6k is a tad short of that figure.

The 9999 reminds me of the millenium bug problem. Another thing that perhaps some older displays ( as well as older laptops and pc) had was a small internal button cell that was used to keep a small memory used for settings etc and an internal clock powered. The button cell was designed to last the lifetime of the unit and I think got a little charge when the units were powered up. Anyhow, a known problem with older units etc is that they can lose some of their settings/data and the clock resetting/error if the unit has been left in storage for a long time due to older button cell running down.
But I cant say if this is relevant to your case.
