Hi, I've been looking at ebikes for a couple of months as I used to be an excellent cyclist until age and ill health got in the way. A few weeks ago I realised I ought to buy one, anything really; as I had major surgery coming up and figured that if I had a set of electric wheels, then I would learn to use them after surgery, whereas if I had to buy afterwards I probably wouldn't.
Two weeks ago, with this in mind, I bought an Axcess Mustang from fleabay. MTBs aren't my thing as the way they are set up causes me hand pain; but it was relatively inexpensive, local and in decent nick.
Here's the thing, apart from the test drive before I bought it, I'd never been on a pedelec and it was a revelation.
When I got it home, I decided to give it a better test. I live on a decently sized, steep hill. Often I can't walk up it, so I took it to the bottom of the hill, put it on the least amount of electric help, and ended up laughing in sheer happiness, as I pedalled up the hill a without any real effort.
Down the other side, around the block as it were; a couple of miles of very rural lanes took me about ten minutes.
I came back with painful hands and wrists, sure; but the biggest grin! Seating position can be altered though this hasn't been done yet as I was in hospital the next day. I now have the Mustang and a very inexpensive, spares/repair Giant hybrid which is a better type for me to ride, and which my brother picked up for me. (Gotta do something to pass the time while you're lying around in hospital, fleabay strikes again.) I don't doubt that I can sort it out when I get a bit healthier, and in the meantime can play around on the Mustang, fiddling with seating positions as I go.
This is going to make recovery so much more fun. :D

Hi and welcome to the world of e-bike hill laughing, I've done that too. I'm sure that a handle bar stem extension would sort out the hand pain, get you a more upright position.
Wishing you a swift recovery.

Welcome,
Of course for serious comfort a recumbent and be handy. Even stop for a nap in the saddle so to speak.
And electrified they get lots of smiles per watt.
If health is getting really bad the trike variants can still go but in relaxed fashion.

That's a good idea using a stem extension, Benjahmin, thanks.
D8ve my health should actually improve now. It's just the being careful not to overdo stuff while I'm recovering which is a bit of a chore. I did quite fancy a recumbant at one point, when my hands first stopped my from riding. It hadn't occurred to me that they have also been electrified. :D

Note to self: it really helps to look at a user name before scratching your head trying to make sense of a thread

Wishing you a speedy recovery and lots of fun with your bike(s) Withnail!
A coward he may be, but an expert on bulls he is not.

(Apologies to to anyone not familiar with the film, but if you've never seen Michael Elfphick threaten Richard E Grant with a dead eel then....)
