Hi all,

I'm trying to power my heated gloves (which are designed for the motorbike and are 12v 1a)

now i have a 12v lithium-ion battery that is 6800mAH, and i was hoping to use this to power the gloves, but it keeps shutting down as soon as i connect it....

I've had the gloves running on a small lead acid 12v battery quite happily, but it weighs a lot more than the lithium-ion and doesn't fit in the battery sized pocked i have :)

any way of telling whether this should power the gloves? i can't find a maximum current draw, but it does have an LED that switches off when i connect the glvoes, but not when i connect an unloaded 12v inverter.....

cheers

Rob

It could be that the gloves have a low voltage cut-off. A 12v lithium battery will be 3 cells, so 12.6v fully charged and 9v when empty. If there is a LVC, it could be close to 12V, which your pack will be down to straight away when you consider that there will also be a lot of sag at 1 amp if its one of those 3S1P 18650 packs. Did you measure the voltage from the battery in the state when it cuts off? You might be better off using a 4-cell pack, which will run between 16.8v and 12v, bearing in mind that a motorbike runs just over 14v.

Is it exceeding the batteries max. current? Do you have a multimeter? if so put it across the battery and turn on the gloves, if the battery goes to 0v it is shutting down due to current.
