Not the ideal conditions for belting across the Downs hills, though the local kids have been enjoying themselves:

No snow here - just the odd flurry but not sticking.
Been out and its fresh and cold - love it :D
.
Lucky you.

As far west as Dorset got the snow and it settled a bit, but my brother tells me it's melted fast there. Here on the London/Surrey border there's a slow melt off the trees and roads, but the stuff on the rest of the ground is sticking.

Good for you flecc.;)
Though I thought you would have had a set of tyre chains for the bikes.
It seems to me your a hardened all weather cyclist.
But in retirement you can do what you want. Thats what its all about.
12 years to go before I retire !

You should enjoy retirement when it arrives, it's been the best period of my life. I managed it very early so I've enjoyed 18 years of it at 72, much more than most can ever get at that age, or even ever.

My target is to achieve at least as many retirement years as I had working years, a target that would make the government groan in despair. :D

I'm a most weather cyclist, but not snow and ice, the hills here far too steep. The footpaths outside my home have to have handrails to make it possible to walk up them when it gets like this.

Yes, I saw that design announced Tom. The drag with that type of half-track belt drive has to be experienced to be believed, and I don't think it will ever enjoy a market without the addition of power.

You are right about the power Flecc. I would suggest a couple of front hub huskies. Good range and love the cold:)

Huskies and a sled much better!

I saw recently that one of the recumbent trike makers, Greenspeed in Australia I believe, were experimenting with a similar half track rear drive.

Unbelievable. Recumbent trikes which are heavy anyway are already seriously handicapped in difficult circumstances, like soft surfaces and hill climbing, and a half track in snow or mud would probably finally render one immovable. :(

The Russian front wheel drive recumbent trikes are more suitable, and the newer three wheel drive model probably even more so. Of course they know what snow is.

Hey, did you know.....the best way to clean your tyres is to ride the bike in snow. I did it last year (at a slow pace to maintain control obviously) and it worked a treat - the tyres on my bike were immaculate afterwards (no more mud etc)

Just a tip for those of you with a muddy bike in this snowy weather :)
