Well myself my bike my car and it how i get about places at first i used flat pedals but since owning my bike doing longer journey on my bike
i have changed now to cleats and if you get your bike fitted properly it is a quite a lot better because you are doing a lot miles you will see the benefits when cycling you will be a lot more comfortable in that position for a long period of time
i have something called a ISM PR 60 saddle to which to use you have to measured to the seat to the pedals for the seat to be any benefit to the cyclist if it is not set up correct it can be like seating on a piece of 2x2 and it can be very uncomfortable
But if it is set up correctly and properly with cleats in the correction position it can be like sitting on your sofa at home
When i am doing about 20-40 miles i want to be as comfortable as possible
the last thing i want is to be in pain from cycling
i personally prefer it now and do enjoy cycling more since i have been using this position when i have been riding been clipped in does help you a little bit because you are more connected to the bike and you can push more power on the pedals too
But be warned when clipped in their will be a time when you do forget completely and you will fall off your bike that the pleasure of turning to clip in pedals.
Once you have fallen off a couple of times clipped in you soon learn to dismount your shoes from the pedal before you stop
The best thing you can do really is really 40 yards before you stop unclip one pedal so you always have a foot to put down always put down the prefer foot.
The best thing to do is learn clipped in and out on grass first so if you do fall off then it won't hurt so much then landing on a road somewhere
Another good tip for you to learn why you are learning keep the cleats to their lowest tension because when you tighten them up it harder for you to get out of in time when you have mastered it just tighten to what feels comfortable to you need everyone is different
To keep your cleats in good shape be kind to them and service them regularly so that you don't get any problems with them the last thing
you want is you are struggling to get out of them because you haven't maintained them properly

Once a week just squirt some of the pedal cleat lube on to keep them in good order then you shouldn't really get any problems when you are riding
