Hi. I am a newbie looking for his first electric bike. I do have a couple of mountain bikes, a Cannondale M800 and a Marin Mount Vision, but find I am a bit too lazy to use these on an everyday basis for short journeys, errands etc.

I have been considering Wisper but they seem a bit pricey. I have recently come across Kudos who seem more reasonable...how do they compare? I would like reasonable quality but do not want to spend a fortune.

Hello and welcome! Ebikes are wonderful and there will be one to fit you & your needs. Try, try, try before you buy. The perfect bike for you may well be a top-of -the -range model or it could be a much more modest machine. Ride as many as you can, read the posts on here - research before you buy!
Ebike are truly wonderful machines!
Let us know how your hunt progresses!

Trouble is that there does not appear to be any specialist electric bike shops relativly near me (nr Tring, Herts) so not easy to test.

Seeing as you mentioned a Marin Mount Vision, I had to show you this one that I helped my friend Steve build. Total cost (not counting the bike) was about £570. 18ah 36v battery, 350w Bafang BPM motor, 25amp controller. It will pull you up any hill, has brakes and suspension to die for, and (IMHO) beats any ready-made electric bike including the Haibike Xduro.

The Motor, controller, throttle etc from BMSbattery.com about £150. He already had two 9aH batteries off his old bike. He just paralleled them. The rack was from Ebay £6.99. The bag was from a sports shop £5.
Had to file the fork drop-outs to fit the larger axle, make two torque arms from steel plate (requires a bit of sawing, welding and filing), and file the front caliper carrier to make it thinner due to the disk being closer. In the bag is actually 3 batteries: he also has an emergency pack of 5aH lipos plus the controller, all his tools, pump and spare tube. The bag is bolted to the rack by inserting a piece of plywood in the base and also has extra bits of plywood to hold the sides rigid to look neater, I had to dish the wheel by re-tensioning the spokes to get the rim central,

I don't know about Wisper but I have a Kudos tourer 9 speed. It's the only e-bike I've had but I like it. It looks good (to me) and goes great. I live in a very hilly area in Central Scotland and have no complaints about its performance. It takes me more than 30 miles on a charge. I put a report about it in the review section on here.

Hi x332 race,

Welcome to the forum. If you are considering converting one of your bikes, you might be interested in an eZee kit. I am based not very far from you in Milton Keynes and can supply kits from stock with 2 years warranty. Currently, I we have an end of year sale and have a demo bike if you would like to see how the kit performs. You can find more information via the link below.

Regards,
