Hi, new to all this, my first go at any kind of E Bike.
I decided to convert my old, largely unused Trek 8000 hardtail to electric, I have a relative with some land so was for use on there really, am a road cyclist mainly on a non electric Trek Domane.
Its one of these,
Its a fairly sturdy bike with decent forks and effective hydraulic braking, so I thought it was ideal rather than some that stick a kit on a cheapo rim braked no name job.
So I duly ordered a kit and battery, 1500 Watt Voilamart one and a 52 volt battery from another seller that isnt here yet, I am fairly practical and generally do my own maintenance but this kind of stumped me a bit.
Two main problems,
The wheel goes in the dropouts ok but they dont really seem deep enough for it, only half of the axle sits into the dropout, doesnt really seem adequate appreciate I will need a torque arm but are some bikes just not really suitable ?
Also, the rear Derailleur clouts the motor casing in pretty much any gear, I guess thats just a case of buying another one and a seven speed shifter, its currently a ten speed cassette.
So, dont want to spend more on the second problem if the first one is insurmountable, it needs to be pretty solid with all that torque.
Will get some photos.
