Just taken possession of a Wisper 905se City S supplied by 'FULL CHARGE AHEAD' run by two very knowledgeable guys - Jeff and Jonathan, based at Pugh's Garden Centre, Radyr, Cardiff www.fullchargeahead.com

They've got a fair selection of electric bikes and encourage customers to take them out for trials.

Got it home and did a quick 6 miles run to tackle some killer hills. First impression is 'Wow'

Not pedalled up some of those hills for 20 odd years but did them on the Wisper with some effort from myself - but hey....it's exercise!!

Will put some more on the thread when I've done some more miles.

There's something about new bikes, something exciting. I buy a new car every few years but when my last one was delivered, it it stood on my drive for 4 days until I needed to use it before I first drove it.

But bikes, electric and not, they're kind of organic. As soon as I get one, I'm on it for a spin round Richmond Park. I feel the same about a new guitar. Some things are personal and interesting, some like cars and cameras are white goods, just objects that perform a function.

I think that in my mind, a bike is a metaphor for freedom. Like a guitar, it puts you in your own chosen world, away from others.

How else could you commute into London and enjoy it?

Thanks Guys.......it's funny how many of us have other interests as well as electric bikes.

I play electric keyboard and have had many over the years. I too get that 'new' thrill when I have a new keyboard to play around with.

Took advice from Lemmy's post on 4/3/10 about insurance.

Just added my Wisper to my house/contents insurance with Direct Line and they quoted me £17 annually.....this covers damage/theft anywhere it occurs.

I quite agree, I feel equally uninspired by driving a car and since childhood have always got extremely excited about buying and riding a bike. I have just been looking at bikes for my 5 year old daughter and found it equally inspiring.

Asides from bikes I also get a sense of freedom from camper vans. I recently bought an old vw T4 panel van which has been converted over the last few weeks into a rather neat & functional camper (Pic attached). I'm hoping for many happy weekends away this year in the van with my electric bike - I think the two pursuits compliment each other pretty well.

That looks like a nice conversion. A good friend of mine just did the same and sent me the instruction disk on the know how. My wife keeps telling me to convert my VW van but to be honest I don`t think I`d enjoy the low mpg after driving a VW golf tdi.

If it rains you can always get down for a game of draughts:D :D

Take Care and Enjoy

Thanks Dave,

The mpg does not seem too bad, it's a 1.9td & even with all the kit & my Alien bike in the back it feels reasonably economical considering the current diesel /petrol prices.

I am the lead singer in a function band, and I get the point about new bikes. For the last 15 years, I have had a new car every 4 months or so and it holds no appeal whatsoever. I also play keyboards (Fantom X8 currently).

On another note, I was in Halfords today, and was intrigued to note that they are flogging Haynes manuals for the Fender Stratocaster. WTF?

Yeah, do a remake of 'She's Got Legs' and have loads of beautiful long legged chicks riding Cytronex's

Or Queen's 'Fat bottomed Girls' (they weren't all that fat if I remember the video correctly).
