We have two cycles with 20” wheels but only pedal power and we are struggling a little when we go away. I have a Bickerton Junction1507 and my husband has a Dahon Vitesse D8. We know nothing about conversion kits and need your valuable advice. Front? Back? Ease of fitting? Cost? We won’t be riding too far 10 miles max per day.

folding bikes are difficult to convert because:

1. not much room for the battery without interfering with the fold.
2. a lot of them have narrow front forks, narrow motors are difficult to find
3. the wiring needs to be arranged so that folding/unfolding does not damage it
4. difficult to distribute the weight and keep the centre of gravity roughly unchanged.

This is one I converted using a torque sensor kit to simplify the job:

If you want to pursue this project, I suggest you fit a crank drive motor. The budget is about £600-£700 per bike.
Consider buying factory made instead.
