We are considering splitting the discussion of 'off-road' bikes and kits away from the main forum into its own sub-forum.

Thoughts please....

How about a sub-section titled "other electrically assisted vehicles"?

Having said that, endless sphere seems to funtion perfectly adequately without feeling the need to draw a distinction between "legal" and "non-legal" ebikes - they also don't seem to have any self appointed "forum police" though. Then again, the Americans have always been a bit more liberal than us Brits ;-)

I think that could work, though since legal kits should stay in the main forum there could be some confusion and crossover.

That could work. Might help stop the "Discussions"

I think its a fantastic idea..away somewhere where I and visitors to the forum, don't have to see grown men, who should know better, repeatedly advocating 2000 watt 40 mph bikes..That by definition are not e bikes, not even mopeds (restricted to 30mph) but electric motorbikes. I bet most of these types are banned anyway!lol

To include street legal kits as well in this sub forum, I really don't understand why...

I wouldn't like to see the formation of a sub-forum. Electric bikes are a minority subject and any further division or fragmentation of topics will dilute the information too much.

Personally, I am interested to read about some of the higher power kits and modifications undertaken by forum members and don't want to ferret around in sub-forums looking for it. What I don't like to see is the rather childish, "Bicycle Top-Trumps" going on by bragging about speed. That sort of mindset does no one any favours and if we are sensible and exercise discretion, we should all be able to live together under a single heading.

NO way Russ.....I find all aspects of E-bikes extremely interesting

I dont like discrimination.....room for all of us within the main forum.......not sidetracking certain sections away......I might miss something...

Besides, I would have to search around much more for my online research into Amateur Psychology for my course at the O.U.
This forum is an amazing resource :D :D :D

I dont think i've seen any of the top speed bike thing going on. There are people that have pushed limits.
I'm one of them I guess. I don't think i've ever bragged about it.

Infact I think most the time I said it was pretty dangerous.

The top trumps things happen on Endless sphere. But then again I like the fact there are alot of talented builders all over the world pushing some boundries. They do blur lines though.
But its good to excercise those bounderies otherwise we would never advance.

But like wise I understand the need for such things to really stay off road or to be used safely somewhere practical.

Needless to say I enjoy alot of the content. Even the bickering and have thrown my 2 cents worth in every now and then.

I wouldnt mind the split. It might even attract another type of powered cyclist to the forum.
Those that are into wacky off road trail builds.

PS......any sign of getting our 'other' 50C threads back yet ??
Or will THEY be put in a special 'contentious' sub forum as well...
OR....... are we all about to be incarcerated......:)

Of course if the latest European Parliament proposition to do away with power limiting comes about, a separate forum would lose much of it's raison d'être.

When do you reckon this will happen Flecc?

And will it just be a matter of buying the 500watt motor in a wheel and fitting it? Provided the 15.5mph limit remains, will it be a wattage free for all?

I've no idea when, it could take about a year and of course Britain may not accept it.

If accepted, there would be no limit on wattage since speed limiting is all that is necessary. In any case, the size and weight of battery and motor would limit what could be added. Bikes with throttles will also have a 25 kilo limit which would restrict motor and battery weight.

Hi Russ,

I'm not sure what the advantages of a sub-forum would be?
Just wonder if you could explain your thinking please.

I don't think you ever will see that thread again. One of my threads disappeared under similar circumstances.

Rumour has it that if a forum member complains too loudly they, "disappear" too. Forum members Elephants Gerald and Music Books are still missing. Their bikes are rusting away in an isolted garden shed. Beware!

I for one am fed up being described as a killjoy, get of your soap box etc.... etc.. This all in one day, on different threads. I come on here to learn and discuss my hobby which is e biking...end of story.

The clue is in the forum name and title, and what some on here are discussing are not E bikes. So a sub forum best place for it. I am more concerned with the newby's and onlookers who are legion compared to active members, simply getting the wrong idea. Surely we have a duty to be responsible

Do you seriously think a 500 + watt bike restricted to 15.5 mph will satisfy this group....

Your in that group already with the bosch unit.
But I get your point.

Perfectly happy with what ever decision is undertook. Mainly becasue its only moving a mouse to different parts of the site and even i'm not that lazy.
