New regulations imminent

I was very disappointed about the lack of progress after the consultation about raising the power limit to 500w and allowing throttles, but it's not over. A little bird flew in my window and told me that new regulations are coming very soon. The 250w power limit will be removed because it's total nonsense. It already allows any power a manufacturer wants. It's virtually impossible to test even if they wanted a power limit of some sort, and difficult to enforce, so they're just going to stick with the 25km/hr limit and you can have as much power as you want.

There's not much point in rushing out to get your 1000w motor because, when limited to 15 mph, all you get is a weight penalty. They're going to step up the enforcement of the 15.5mph speed limit, so make sure your bike is legal.

I can't give the name of the little bird just yet.

Was it the funny little bald dude from The Gadget Show in your profile pic?

Great prospects for cargo bikes doing useful work peeps'd otherwise use cars for, if this comes of pass, and I certainly hope it does - it's what I've always wanted.

And fatsos will be forever grateful; eat more. Might even get them off Sur-rons. Suddenly, I feared being crushed like a bug and bigly farted upon.

Sounds suspiciously like old news revived.

Years ago the European Parliament tried to get the EU Commission to accept exactly this change but it was rejected.

I can't see Great Britain accepting it in isolation since it could bring an abrupt end to the so-called permanence of what is actually a temporary trade agreement between us and the EU, following Brexit.

So it could be a new EU EAPC law which we accept to maintain trading compatibility, but again seeming unlikely since that would split the EU from all the many other nations worldwide effectively using current EU law, damaging their export market.

Such a change to regs would be welcome in that the very nice geared hubs like all of the AKM100's & AKM 128's would be legal to use . It would also make all of the many 350w hubs legal along with all the current illegal mid drive kits .

Just twigged the date looks like I fell for it.

It a bit like Sunday , I coudn't understand why my clocks were wrong . I only twigged it on Monday and that BST had started.
