Hi, I am 75 years old and although I have done lots of cycling in my younger days I am now getting a bit old and creaky so I feel the need for some extra power. I have been given a brand new Dawes Suburbia ebike but it has no battery charger and the battery is almost dead. Does anybody know where I can buy one or is there any alternative way of charging the battery?

Hi Joseph

Welcome.
As you put your name up I assume it's all legitimate.
As a new bike I recomend returning to the dealer who sold the bike in the first place. They should be able to get a replacement charger quickly. Or even have one in stock?
This would continue the warrantee as using a "foreign " charger may cause issues.

Thanks for all this. My bike looks obviously the same as the ladies' in the picture, except it is the men's version. Because I did not actually buy the bike I have got the purchaser to contact the dealer selling it. They have contacted Dawes who said they would send one out to the dealer. Apparently Dawes have recently been in the habit of supplying ebikes minus the charger which is atrocious service. Dawes will not supply spares direct to the public, which I find very strange.
The battery charger is listed as:
Charger – UK type 110-240V/50Hz 2A for 36V only
I don't know whether this is a generic type or strictly specific to Dawes. Naturally I am now wary of Dawes so I would like to know if there is any online dealer in these sorts of things?

The generic specification is for 36 volts 2 amp suppy.
Lots of manufacturers do this. The odd bit is the connector.
Someone else will have to advise.
It's fairly normal for manufacturers to only deal with wholesale or dealers.
Daws used to be a good name I don't know what they are like now though.

Many makers only supply though dealers Joseph, including Giant who are one of the world's largest manufacturers of bikes. This is also common practice in many other industries.

The charger is generic and a common type, but the connector can vary between makes. I don't know which connector type the Dawes uses, but by all means post a photo of the battery connector face if you'd like us to identify it.

You should be able to use any 36v charger that has a charge voltage of 42v at 2A. You only need the correct connector. What socket do you have? Show a photo if you're not sure.
