Hi all,

I just thought I'd introduce myself as I've been browsing as a guest for a while. Lots of useful information on this site, and I have a question about my impending purchase, but I'll post it on the relevant thread that I've found.

I've liked the idea of electric bikes for a long time, ever since I first saw that luggage rack pack you could get years ago to go on a normal bike, that gave drive through a roller to your tyre, I think it was a Clive Sinclair invention. But I never did anything about it, as they were quite expensive. I got a renewed interest a few years ago when I came across the Powerbyke (X24 I think) mountain bike style bike with the battery that looked like a drinks bottle while browsing online.

On to now, and our company has started a cycle to work scheme, so I thought ideal time to get an electric bike, and a good saving to make, also hopefully cut fuel costs too. I have a relatively expensive mountain bike (Univega Alpina 5.5 - £600 18yrs ago), that's still going well, but the boring straight ride to work does my head in, and it's also a slight incline coming home which I often can't face on the return trip, so often never use my bike for work.

Hopefully this'll change with the electric bike as if I can't be bothered to pedal, or hit a headwind, I can just twist the throttle. With the speed of town traffic it shouldn't take me much longer on the bike.

I did try a couple of bikes at a caravan show recently, made by PoweredBicycles, and was quite impressed. I had been going to get a folding bike so I could use it with our caravan, but they had a mountain bike type ebike there too, and I was drawn to that one once I saw it. The let me have a demo of both types, even though I told them I wouldn't be able to buy from them as our company was using one supplier for all the bikes to keep things simple. So thanks for that if you're looking in. The mountain bike felt much smoother than the folder.

The bike I've decided on in a similar mountain bike style to the one I tried, but this one is the Fast4ward Peak. It was supposed to arrive today but has been held up by a problem which I'll mention on another thread that already exists about it.

Regards,
Mark.
