Hi everyone, just found this site. I live in the Greater Manchester area, retired, 65 years old, quite active though. I am looking to purchase an electric bike. not 100% sure if I would like a folding or a ridged model, so many to choose from. Where do you start?
Regards
Rob

At the beginning, go round in ever decreasing circles, hear all the arguments in favour of one system or another, test ride a lot, up the amount you were thinking of and then you are getting close.

Welcome.

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the forum.

To get the best advice you need to give as much information as possible.
e.g. What will you be using the bike for? How far do you want to ride? What is the terrain like hilly or flat? Is there a particular style of bike that you like?
What is you budget?
As well as "off the peg" electric bikes conversion kits are also popular for converting non electric bikes.

Hi, Thanks for your response. At present I tend to look at "off the peg" models. Would really like something that will provide a comfortable ride, and be able to cover 30 plus miles on one charge, a 10-15 amp battery?
the bike will be used purely for pleasure and mainly on flat terrain.
Step through or crossbar, folding or ridged? It appears e- bike technology
is making rapid progress at the moment. I hope to narrow my selection down a little over the weekend,

Thanks.

The frame is not the technical high point.
Ridgid is generally best but good folders are also available.
For 30 mile range a 15 amp 36 volt battery is a minimum.
Then chose hub or crank. Pro bialy hub will do if mostly flat cycling

Hi Monty's Dad and welcome, If its for pleasure and you have motor transport as well, a folder is great for you to investigate new areas or places.
And try as many e-bike as you can is very good advice.

Thanks for the reply OldBob1, that's a very good reason to investigate the folding bike option. Yes I have a car to get to the nicer bits of the town.
I see you have a Cyclamatic foldaway. I will check out some folders.
many thanks.

Hi Rob

A big welcome to this site. By the sound of it you seem to be still very young at heart. Have you considered looking at the Stealth Bomber?
