Helkama have been making Panasonic motored bikes for some while, as have some others like BikeTech. However, they've always been at the very expensive end of the market, up to £2500, so were never a Lafree replacement.

It's only with Derby Cycles entering the market with Kalkhoff etc that they are now more affordable and can be mainstream again.
