It looks like they have better software to convert the pedal speed to motor power. The old ones had really bad algorithms, which was more noticeable on the higher powered controllers. Without a wiring diagram, it's difficult to be sure, but I think that you need to choose a panel. They probably don't work without one. Additionally, you get the choice of sine-wave or square-wave commutation. The sine-wave ones will allow your motor to run smoother and quieter, but I couldn't say if there's any other effects.
S06 with S-LED890 would be nearest equivalent to KU65. I suspect that the speedo will only work on motor speed, so will show zero when free-wheeling down-hill.
Edit: I see they do the optional speed sensor, so speed reading should be OK, but I don''t know if it works with all panels.
I guess these controllers have three-wire connectors for the "hidden wire" brake sensors, so it's worth getting a couple of the sensors while your at it if you have cable brakes.
